Here is the picture in question: Bowie pic

I was kinda drunk last night and bought this on eBay on impulse. After doing some research I'm now questioning whether this is real or not (thinking not). The guy that I got it from has lots of good feedback but all of his items are set to "private" under feedback, so you can see the feedback but not the item (was told this is a red flag). Also I found this picture of a signed Bowie guitar and it seems that this picture could just be someone copying this since it's the exact same message.

I already messaged the guy laying out all of the reasons I think this is fake and told him I wanted a refund and not to ship it. I know I should have done research and this was a mistake, but do I have any recourse at this point or am I stuck with this thing? It has not been shipped yet.

Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Eric Longo is one of the best members on Bowie. Try messaging him.

Thanks!

'My very best wishes' is quite common for Bowie to sign.

My personal, no professional, opinion is this is not by Bowie. The message in particular looks too neat.

Thanks for your input, I was thinking the same. Also he gave me a refund without question and didn't try to convince me it was real, so I guess it's definitely fake.

I saw that when it popped up there is a few I think - not Bowie's handwriting and some other problems...placement, date and angle among them.

Thank you for your input Eric! I figured because he was asking a decent amount for it ($300) that it must be real, but now I realize he's just one of the more greedy scammers.

What would you say is the normal going rate for a signed photo by Bowie?

Well, $300 is not nearly enough for any decent recent SP and that is the vast majority. Twice that might get you a Tin Man SP, maybe, nd that is not his ...best work. Or maybe a decent signature for $300 other than an ISOLAR card as there are simply way to many of those. It really depends on the vintage, the signing style/character (Ziggy=$$$), the development/photo type (Official RCA promo? Magazine cut or ?), paper weight, and the amount of handwriting/ink type. So happens I have an extremely rare vintage one the BST FWIW.  See what you think?

PS - That guitar is a perfectly authentic late date Bowie signature and inscription.

Your question - I am sorry - I see a Bowie or Gleason and start looking. You asked a question - "do I have recourse?"

He has a return policy in the ad. Why should you be stuck with anything? It is relisted already, so he did not ship. Go and get your money. It appears he also is trying to tell you, in the ad, that you can back out of a Buy It Now in some circumstances etc. He also said it was genuine at least 8 times in perhaps as many ways...

Seller can moan and scream and cry - you have no bar to meet. Just say "I wish to return this, advise" - no reason needed. :)

Hi Axilrod,

When I read/responded to this I missed your second response - apologies. Glad you got your $ back! :)
