The Authentic Experience
Finally, we have gone round and round in this space... thus the time has come to open up the discussion. Steve is in concert with this and asked me to start the discussion so here we go...
What are your thoughts and inputs as to what should or should not be included.
Once we stomp around in the tullies with the inputs the final list will be submitted for implementation... so this is the time for your input.
to get us started I have posted some thoughts in the first comment...

The intent of the Community Forum is for the benefit of all Memorabillia collectors to share information as well as Experts, Dealers and Authenticators to provide invaluable insight and information for all collectors and enthusiasts. The idea is to have fun while sharing information on a myriad of subjects related to the collectable industry.
When you post a comment in the Autograph Magazine Live Community site, you acknowledge that you have read and agree to be bound by these Forum Rules. Please be sure to read them so that you are aware of our netiquette requirements.
Personal emails and/or correspondence should not be posted on the board, except with approval from the moderator and only under extraordinary circumstances. Debates between members are expected but we expect members to disagree without being disagreeable. Personal attacks are not allowed and members should not "hijack" threads of other members. Likewise we expect all Member to act with civility while being respectfull of others (as difficult as it may be). Debates and "insults" happen but lets not have in escalate into all out flame throwing. (see member boxing forum).
Members who have created a false or deceptive user name for "alterior purposes" will not be tolerated and suspended at the sole descretion of the moderator(s). You must be 18 years of age to participate in the Buy, Sell, Trade areas or have a parent or guardian contact the moderator for approval first. “Caveat Emptor- Buyer Beware” to all members. Each member uses the Forum at their own risk. Autograph Magazine does not monitor, and will not be responsible, for buyer/seller transactions but does encourage discussion to ferret out any "non-authentic" items without getting into a flame throwing contest.
Permalink Reply by Steve Cyrkin on January 26, 2012 at 11:08am Darn, DB...those rules would take all the fun out of this site!
Kidding. We need new Terms of Use, why don't we first focus on identifying the formal and informal rules that make the site better for both its members, and those who don't join but read AM Live? Like most open communities, only a few percent of the people that use AM Live actually join. Most only join if they want to participate. So rules and etiquette that make the experience better for them are important, too.
Why don't we start with a list of concerns and possible solutions?
Permalink Reply by DB on January 26, 2012 at 11:56am I'll bet that is what the folks at Tombstone thought when Wyatt Earp set up shop.
rules for readers, imo, would be difficult. it would be moreso of a tutorial as those who join and post are what the rules govern and if they are "somewhat" civil then readers get what they get. We of course have the other type of readers who copy (and there is perhaps something that can eliminate that phenomena) and then post it somewhere else (as is or as we know modified) for their own dastardly use. Rules not "etiquette" would ever apply to them.
since you've elevated the thread to feature all "posting members" can chime in with added formal or informal rules. It would be my perspective that formal rules eradicate a number of concerns while leveling the playing field for all posting members for the most part.
"informal" rules is where most get into problems as they are typically discretionary and seldolmly consistent in their enforcement... but I look forward to hearing from others on them as well.

Permalink Reply by Mr Zipper on January 26, 2012 at 11:35am Here are the terms of use I developed for another forum I moderate. I tried to keep them simple and clear. Feel free to take from these as you wish.
Posting Guidelines
The Forum should be family and work friendly. All members should be treated with respect and dignity and in the same manner you would address someone in person. Please discuss and debate opinions without engaging in personal attacks. Users who persistently engage in abusive behavior will be suspended or banned.
Although FORUM HOST does not and cannot review each and every message that is posted and is not responsible for the content of any of these messages, we reserve the right to delete any message for any reason whatsoever. Messages are typically deleted as a result of the following:
* Profanity in subject lines or signatures, or profanity within messages deemed to be blatant as opposed to incidental
* Spamming or commercial solicitation
* Flaming other members with the apparent intent of inciting or perpetuating a conflict or argument
* Antagonizing other members with little or no constructive content
* Bombing forums or individual threads with repetitive, pointless posts and/or excessive “emoticon only” posts
* Posting personal e-mail, chat or private message dialogues
* Posting pornographic or otherwise objectionable material
* Political and/or religious debates
* Impersonating other individuals or false representation
* Discussion of illegal activity, or posting links to other websites that deal with such activities
* Posts made under secondary usernames or other aliases -- usernames commonly referred to as "shills"
* Posts which are completely unrelated to the forum in which they are posted
* Excessive cross-posting (this is considered spam)
* Posts which breach another member's privacy, i.e. containing phone numbers, addresses or other personal information
* Copyright violations
Member Suspension and Banning
At their discretion, Forum Administrators/moderators may suspend and/or ban members for violations of the Terms of Use and Posting Guidelines.
While passionate discussion is encouraged, members who antagonize other members may be suspended or banned.
Permalink Reply by DB on January 26, 2012 at 12:42pm good list... they overlap very nicely with some of the paragraphs above and can be assured that several will be borrowed... No bombing? Does that mean we have to call off air strikes?
Permalink Reply by Steve Cyrkin on January 26, 2012 at 2:11pm Agree...a good list, Mr Zipper. But since we are fighting the forgery industry here, there would need to be some adjustments. On occasion I need to post emails or parts of emails.
Add: Dealers, auctions, authenticators (anyone in an autograph-related business) and all of their employees or professional associates must identify themselves as such and use their real names. That's already in the registration form, but needs to be put in the rules.
Permalink Reply by DB on January 26, 2012 at 2:49pm All members must choose a unique USER ID, supply a First and Last Name and Current Day Time phone number to the moderator in order to become a registered member in order to post comments is why it's included in the original paragraphs. It initiates and eliminates alot of issues and automatically includes this grouping and then some. It also helps to prevent aleternate, shills and "alterior motive only" members.
I'm so disappointed. All I really wanted to do was call people names, fabricate lies, and bypass talking about autographs altogether.
;)

Permalink Reply by Steve Cyrkin on January 26, 2012 at 8:10pm True! And I hear Jerry Gladstone's behindthegavel.com is available.
Permalink Reply by DB on January 27, 2012 at 3:35pm never fear, we have to have a few gunfights every so often to clear out the "white elephants" but hopefully in the "boxing area" but not as many as one is given to believe happened with hollywood's view of the old west. Most of the time there were ambushes and bushwhackers and that is what needs to be minimized and deescalated. Although maybe we should set aside one day for lies, fabrication and trash talking.
