so what's anyones take on the Autograph Hell http://www.autographhell.com/  You can go directly to the author's site and buy it for $19.95 or go the link at the bottom to see if free ones are still availble ($5.00 S&H applies).

This book is for everyone who has or will trust in the autograph business whose treasured prize is possibly the source of easy cash for a forger (thief), and to those who may be seeking a new treasure-beware. Knowledge is power.

When a prized autograph of first president George Washington turns out to be a fake, renowned autograph collector Charles Irion begins to research the world of autograph collecting. What he finds is a business fraught with fakes and frauds.

Follow Irion on his trail of truth as he starts at the very beginning of autograph collecting to find a world filled with falsified documents and counterfeit signatures – most of which are "authenticated" by the autograph experts who control this multi-million dollar business. Join Irion as he explores a mind-boggling world of autographs that aren't what they seem, run by people who aren't what they claim.

Even his conclusion that "the only true autograph is one you get yourself," proves false when an autograph he personally collected from Muhammad Ali is declared a fake by one of the country's top authenticators! Both enlightening and disturbing, this non-fiction book exposes the rampant fiction in the world of autograph collecting

Well, since there are so many Elvis conversations going on currently. Here's A Study of Elvis Presley's Autograph for sale from the UACC. It's a good place to start for anyone who wants to learn Elvis' signature.

Thanks for the link Brick. That book is a must if you are an Elvis collector.

pulled this over here from a different thread;

Steve Cyrkin commented;

Regarding the book Autograph Hell, there's good information and info that's not. It's been years since I read it, but even though I didn't agree with some things, I thought it was a good book. The author Chuck Irion is a great guy and as honest as they come, but in some cases he didn't realize who he was talking to.

was trying to send an inquiry over to "Chuck" on an allegation he makes in an early chapter of the 2008 Autograph Hell book regarding easy rider posters but it seems the contact links are dated.  It states that Hopper & Fonda during the end of the filming had become adversaries and to such an extent that if one had already signed a poster then the other would decline signing although he identifies them as both producers of the film. ''

In reality Hopper was the Director while Fonda was the Producer.   It's also generally known that Hopper had a major blow out with Rip Torn who was suppose to be George (Jack nicholson would replace him) and Fonda had a physical altercation with an early film crew camerman but there is no record that I have found so far of the two ever having a fallout as identified.

Thus, if you Steve or others have his direct contact information pls post so the inquiry can be made.

The reason why I question this is simply if there was a beef ongoing with posters it would stand to reason it would roll-over to 8x10s that have Captn America, Hopper & Nicholson signatures and sometimes just the two of them.  Perhaps it was merely a point in time fallout as well but it deserved some follow-up.

And who better to inquire of then Bobbie at R&R as they have some pretty decent research capabilities plus from time to time the Easy Rider 8x10's make an appearance.  The answer received was that this allegation based on their information was a myth.

Thus, I wanted to gain insight as to the source as well as independent confirmation.

Here's Chuck's email: charles@irionbooks.com
got it and he is going back to review some notes as to where he picked up that piece of information.   What one has to appreciate is the 3 words used in a positive manner that fit the collecting business;  Trust, but Verify (and alot of other businesses as well)

I talked to Chuck Irion this afternoon, DB. He said you wrote him about Easy Rider and he gave you what he knows. He just came back from climbing...Mt. Everest?...he's climbed three of the highest peaks...and it's going to be the setting of his third murder mystery.

It was good catching up with Chuck. He suggested writing something for us and we're going to talk again once I reread Autograph Hell.

just checked, not quite as I still await his research notes and information if he can find it as to the source. I'll post when it arrives but it seems Mike A., below has a different view as well.

There was certainly a recording album flap between the two for a short while but that preceeded the Easy Rider collaboration.

research notes not received to date.

well, i had 3 posters and  few 8x10's signed by all three in my time. the movie wasn't a favorite of mine, so i never kept any of it. i think i even sold an 8x10 at rand r auctions a few years ago. there are quite a few guys out that, when peter fonda makes an appearance, they have several posters that they need him to FINISH, to which he just does the 1 per person (for the most part, sometimes it's more) and he makes some comment about how he got ripped off by the production company and didn't ever make a dime off that movie. and he always asks why we have THAT movie poster, since he's apparently done more and better things. nicholson doesn't care, if he's signin, he's signing. i got dennis hopper last at his appearance on the "jimmy kimmel" show and he was super duper nice, telling us about his NEW starz show. only to have him pass not too long after that... but there are quite a few posters and 8x10's out on the market out there that are legit.
oh, and i have a NOOK... i'll probably be checking out this book this weekend... seems interesting.
