The Authentic Experience
3/15/2012 Chose to update the thread with the other two discussed in comments below that were also new additions to the EBAY banned list. More nominations in the works.
I also confirmed with EBAY spokesman some time ago that the ACE which appears on the official banned list as ACE Authentic is actually ACE (Autograph Certification Experts run by Justin priddy) while Rare and Signed is a UK provider. The official EBAY banned list has not been updated to correct the ACE listing thus any presentation that doesn't show ACE Authentic has been modified by the poster. There is more information contained in the comments below regarding the newest additions to the "prestigious" banned list. Unfortunately, whatever percentage of items that are indeed authentic have been significantly tainted. (there is a presumption that there are authentic items).
There is also a Moderated Blog for CSC & ACE but mostly focused on CSC that was created after this thread. A moderated blog means that any comments "added" would have to be approved by the owner of that thread before they become visible. Unfortunately, there is no way of telling what type of threads they are before posting. This thread is not moderated nor do I see a reason to have a need to moderate as comments that go to far astray can be removed. There are however a copy of additional CSC illustrations depicted from ebay. (end 3-15)
CSC Info borrowed from the Zipper as I wondered how we missed CSC Collectibles having it's very own thread...
Zipper recommends you avoid items with the CSC Collectibles Certificate of Authenticity / hologram. These worthless COAs appear on the same junky fakes we've seen with the equally worthless Nicholas Burczyk COAs
Zipper suspects it won't be long before this rubbish COA is banned from eBay as well. Sadly, the criminals who produce these fakes will just produce another phony-baloney authentication COA to slap on the bilge they pump out. It's like COA "whack-a-mole."
One thing to note about these mass-produced fakes is some of them are on 5x7 photos. Now, if you paid big bucks for a private signing with Mickey Mantle, Joe DiMaggio or Ted Williams, would you waste it by having them sign offsize and unpopular 5x7 photos? Of course not. The forgers are so cheap, they probably use 5x7s to reduce costs.
and Cyrkin had noted in another thread on PAAS that CSC's were being removed from EBAY even if they had yet to make the banned list. The following commentary seems to support this;
rt6junkie said, "i purchased a Mickey Mantle/ Ted Williams signed photo at a bid aution for $75.00..I advertised it on ebay and immediately it was pulled and i was put on notice NEVER to try to sell this again or I would be booted off ebay..I honestly did not know it was fake. Once again ebay acted Too Strong"
How many of these do you have of thse Board Certified Court Qualified Forensice Document types?

Hey, Anyone know where I can get a Personalized Mantle autograph? I need him to sign one to my three year old grandaughter. Anyone? lol.
Seriously. I believe there is strength in knowledge and you guys are doing a bangup job of getting the word out. Kudos to you all! I asked myself what I could do to help out and I think I found something.
While perousing the classifieds on Craigslist I saw more than a handful of mantle autographs for sale some ( but not all ) at below market prices. Red flags up I emailed the sellers looking to feel them out. When asked about where the COA came from most responded. Unfortunately they were all from the same cast of characters we all know and love ( to hang ) When I gently suggested that they come to autograph magazine and read comments others have offered about thier authenicator they all either fell silent or cursed me out. None of them retracted their ads. tells me they KNOW they got stuck with a fake and are trying to unload it!
One ad struck me as very unique. No pictures. It offered for you to "place a bid" and the autographed mantle ball will go to the highest "bidder" WHAT!!!!! Is he kidding? When I pressed him for details he cursed me out and told me to mind my own business. Well now it IS my business! So here's what I did. I posted an ad on CL with an identical title but added READ FIRST. ( If you put anything like the word fake or scam CL will flag it ) I wrote a rather detailed explaination of the fakes vs. authentic and why the buyer should do much research before plunking down hard earned cash with these dubious sellers. Especially if the COA came from anyone on ebays banned list, and I provided the list. I encouraged the readers to not just take my word for it but to visit autographmagazine.com My sword was double edged. First to warn unsuspecting buyers and two to try and flush out the crook holding his "auction" on CL. I suceeded on both points. I received several thank you's from several people considering a mantle autograph. I also got an email from a Jim Fromm of Little Falls, New Jersey. Jim tried to convince me that he bought many items with CSC, TTA, GAI authentications and had them re-checked by JSA and PSA and all passed with flying colors. Didnt say just what color that was, perhaps RED. He also let slip that it was his balls being auctioned off on CL. Where else would this crook take his balls? I doubt this guy or others like him are involved in the process of manufacturing these fakes but they are certainly taking advantage of the situation. They buy them cheap on places like Anything at Auction or the like and they resell them at lesser know places like CL. There is a BIG Beatles Convention at the Secaucus, NJ Crowne Plaza this weekend. I wonder how many rare signed Beatles this and that I'll see. Hey maybe Jim Fromm will bring his mantle personalized to the beatles autographed balls! LOL.

What a great post. Glad to see you trying to help people on Craigslist...and calling out the forgery sellers!
I love when people say they sent their banned-list certified autographs to PSA and JSA and they pass with flying colors. Since autograph certified by the other authenticators are worth a fraction of what they'd bring if PSA/DNA and JSA authenticated, why didn't they send them there in the first place?
Keep up the good work! And give us a report on the Beatles convention if you go.
Permalink Reply by DB on March 23, 2012 at 1:14am nice! some of these none-the-less could in fact be genuine except perhaps any mantle as we haven't seen one authentic one yet but the law of averages is out there. GAI might have the closest shot. Nonethelss, if you then go have them recertified from some place else like PSA or JSA there will be factual documentation and without it, well - there you go.
do post a link to your CL "ad" as it ought to be enjoyable reading. There are so so many "after market" like places for all this crap that will result in many more novice collectors (and some not so novice) being ripped off.
Permalink Reply by DB on March 27, 2012 at 11:38pm been ages since sold on ebay but why aren't sellers forced to check the banned list beforehand? Well shortly there will be one less one on EBAY that you might find someplace else. Is it me or does that zoom feature being used by EBAY is just terrible.;

Permalink Reply by DB on April 12, 2012 at 6:04am and Speaking of ACE - appears there are a variation of ACE certis called ACE Vintage COAs appearing on some listings...

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Larry-Bird-Signed-Autographed-Framed-Boston...
but there isn't any COA listed...just a tag on the item! Very Clever Watson but a check on ACE's Cert database indicates the likelihood of "attendance" at a trade show perhaps;
Certificate Number B20382 Location: Long Island National #14, NY
Certification Date: 2011-04-17
now the question was Larry Bird there...
but an ACE is an ACE is an ACE (vintage or not!)
here is also another one;
