Damien Echols is a member of the West Memphis Three and was on Death Row in Arkansas for 18 years....The three were allowed to enter an "Alford Plea",  in order to gain their release.  The state was facing a re-trial that they would most likely lose due to lack of any evidence against them.  His book "Life After Death" is about his experience on death row.  Two years ago he gave a talk at a small place in Philadelphia where we had his book signed.  Anybody not familiar with the case can watch the three Paradise Lost documentaries on HBO
