David Bowie signature opinion
Hello,
I am new to this site and forum and am hoping there are members who can help shed some light on a signed piece in my possession. It is a signed David Bowie Scary Monsters album cover. It has an accompanying COA from CO Authentications based in the UK with the authenticator name L. Bore. Researching the company and authenticator has raised serious doubts along side the aesthetic quality of the signature. My only intent in posting a photo is to get member feedback as to whether this signature is or isn't that of David Bowie's.
Any opinions on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time!

I just read the thread and thank you. Immensely informative and interesting notes to keep in mind. Especially the "loop shapes" you mentioned. Details that seem very familiar and that pertain to this thread. The search continues.

There are about 2 other threads I started but they likely cover similar ground. Very few authentic problem free nice items for reasonabale $ right now. I thought I overpaid for mine, but now I don't think so - not all considered. Post what you are looking at.

Again, thank you for the assistance. I am currently looking at a few items and will absolutely post any I am seriously thinking of considering. I am also open to being sent in the direction of the "problem free" items you mentioned as I have been growing increasingly more skeptical and spun with all the increasing amount of variables involved. Sadly, this has been a long journey in the making only made more difficult now with the tragic loss of David.

For example; the attached photo illustrates the items showing up on ebay and one being considered. Are items with the abbreviated date considered more authentic or not? Also, the larger signatures versus smaller?

Bad scan that LP - basic form is better than most junk out there. I'd wait for another - I am very hesitant now. I don't like that one. And be sure to get a Real Expert Opinion. Dates are usually present, mostly later, and the size is relative. If size alone is the measure I really did a bad job with my ticket.
But there is also content/additional writing, condition, scarcity and so on.
I passed on several b/w and color photos with papers and the good word from my Expert because they were copy photographs, not originals, or cropped or of unknown origin/no markings.
I also passed on cut sigs of any date. I prefer to have some legitimate item signed - merchandise or a CD/record/ticket etc. I'd rather have a smaller neater signature (Bowie is rarely very neat) than some larger smudged or misplaced thing even on equal photographs. If the smaller sig is on a press photo or marked photo, I will prefer that still. And I did not mention I hate blue and red ink - many earlier Bowie's are red. This leaves me with black. I'm loving my ticket - can't you tell?! :D
Below are my favorites and the ways in which I navigated the waters spoken of above while not going broke. I have 1 or 2 signed items that need to be scanned yet, and some flats like On an Island and The Bends that need scanning along with some tickets. Click to see images. The Bowie looks very good IMHO, the Kraftwerk has wonderful contrast but even that is pushing it (the only "photo" apart from the Virgin Limited Edition Radiohead PC), the SP has literally exact photo proof (upon enlargement) and the negatives and also looks nice with the cover art/flat I think.

Those are stellar items! And you have every right to be proud of that Bowie ticket as it is a gem.
To elaborate on that Man Who Sold The World LP, the seller stated it's from the "Vinny Gonzales Collection". I am aware of this collection and its story.
So, in light of that, the other items I am looking at are both large and loopy but lack dates. I have attached images of the two items in question. There is a third and fourth that are also lacking dates but large additionally. I can forward those too but don't want to bombard one message with too much content.

Bowie b/w SP closed $375 1 bid
Now, I'd passed because it is a copy photo, not the original by Ritts, and it is common photo too - great handwriting and signature. Wonderful inscription. No returns or anything, which was OK with me as it is genuine but I was concerned about condition of the photo. It just did not meet all the criterion I wrote about recently, but was an excellent value. Note it was listed for $375, then $475/$1475 BIN, then $375 and sold with 1 bid - all in one listing.
