This card claimed to have been signed by Andy Warhol muse Edie Sedgwick recently sold on eBay for $300. In my opinion, it clearly isn’t authentic. Authentic exemplars of her signature are rare and forgeries even rarer. Her original AFTRA card sold through RR Auction for $1,789.

This is from the auction description:

This is an antique original great birthday card signed by Andy Warhol star Edie Sedgwick. It is rare to find her signature anywhere. So this is an opportunity to have a vintage piece of Hollywood history.

My uncle often prided himself on finding the most elusive and scarce photos and items of the old stars that he could. So this is truly a rare opportunity to get a nice card of Edie's signed.

Here’s the card that sold on eBay followed by the signature portion of a card she wrote to Warhol in 1968. I'm surprised that the birthday card actually sold.

A couple more authentic examples:

Do you have the RR example?

Why do you think that’s not autentic? In my opinion signature looks like her. Edie unfortunately isn’t very popular and even her drawings are not in the museum. Family didn’t care and gave all her things to Goodwill. Maybe somebody had that card in his collection and didn’t gave it to auctions house, but decided to sell by himself, so he chose EBay. 300$ is a lot of money, it was first on eBay for 500$. Warhol’s signatures sometimes sell for 300$-400$ and she was his star, who unfortunately is forgotten. By the way, examples that you have shown quick signatures and this is a different type of a signature. Also in 1968 and 1967 she was often on drugs and heavy medication in psychiatric hospitals, so her handwriting could have changed and wasn’t the same all the time. For me you are an ignorant and knows nothing about Edie and how her life looked like.
Are you the seller? To me it appears to be slowly drawn, and the formation of the D isn't correct.
No, I am not a seller.
I am interested in Edie Sedgwick and I focus on different aspects of her life. I think that this card is 100% original.
Did you take a close look at the formation of the D? It looks correct to you?

I know of these folks, I don't know these signatures, but from what can be seen here there are several interesting differences just in that "E" - opposing actions to the exemplars posted. Some smooth connections too. One or more things with that "E" can be observed in every exemplar posted including the AFTRA card and not the questioned example.

I think the one in question was likely copied from the authentic signed card just below it.

I don't think so. It's still authentic to me.

This is another example of her signature:

It's 100% authentic and it's different from the orginals that you posted.

You're certainly entitled to your opinion, but I'm confident that it isn't authentic.

This one also looks slowly drawn, and it looks like they made the same mistake with the "D."
