Hello,

I found an American Heritage Dictionary of The English Language, copyright 1969. On the inside I found a hand written quote from The Cather in the Rye with a signature of J D Salinger.

Having looked online some parts of the signature look authentic but the penmanship it tidy unlike what I have found online, perhaps the penmanship was neater as the book might have been a gift?

Any thoughts??????

I have some worries about a company that said the signature is authentic and they would certify it. Can I pm you the name of the company in case you know if it's legit??? I don't want to drop names here

My sense is someone else was simply quoting and attributing a passage from the book inside the dictionary... for whatever reason.

Agreed.

I think so as well, it was confusing. We had read that he had a friend in Toronto and we live near Toronto, thought it would be best to check just in case. His penmanship isn't as good as what's in the dictionary.
