thanks - I appreciate your candor - it helps so I know when it says PSA/DNA or JSA - I have more of an idea =]

I am not truly comfortable buying entertainment from either. As said previously I would give the nod to PSA in that area but that is definitely not with a great deal of confidence though either. If you go to ebay and type 'Meg Ryan PSA' or 'Peter Dinklage PSA' (among others) I don't know how any authenticator can sticker some of this stuff in good faith. Sticker or not...buyer beware.

I think both are about equal.  I consider JSA better with regards to Music since Roger works with them.

As far as costumer service.  JSA wins hands down.  I can not say enough good things when it comes to turnaround, pricing and general customer service when I dealt with JSA.  When I dealt with PSA I always feel like a number.  I got the feeling they really didn't care about the little guy.

My opinion

hMMMMMM...wow! its really a subjective field -and honestly THAT part of it does give me room for pause (financially speaking)  yikes!!  - ty for the info Mark!

There are far more bogus music items for sale currently with JSA certification than PSA. So many in fact, that a while back Roger stated on this forum that he has been forced to terminate his involvement with them. Apparently, while citing him as their music consultant on their website, they weren't really using him much even when they really should have.

You need to check your facts with that statement.

I was paraphrasing, but please refer to this post on June 13, 2014 by the owner of this site, Steve Cyrkin here: Roger Epperson resigned from James Spence Authentication today.

Rather confusingly on Roger's own site it is still stated: "I am the full time music autograph authenticator for JSA since November 2006-Present". From many posts on this site, some from Roger himself, it's clear that he wasn't a full time authenticator for JSA but rather a consultant. Many people seem to operate under the impression that Roger personally viewed all of the music items certified by JSA, which he absolutely did not.

My other statement about there being "far more bogus music items for sale currently with JSA certification than PSA" is based on my personal observations and I stand by it (particularly in regards to rock music).

I was talking about Roger not working for JSA.  I cannot speak for him.  But like you said his website say's he does.  And I know anything music that I get authenticated by JSA and its something about every 4 months - Roger has looked at.   Does he look at everything?  I don't know. But I would think anything that needs a letter, they, JSA have a group of people who have to sign off on it.   But I do know that Rich - the Elvis expert at PSA does not look at every Elvis item that comes it.  I have had experience with that.

As far as JSA not being good with Music items - that is your opinion and mine is that they are better than PSA.

They both have a lot of bogus music items out there. Pretty tough to say which one has more. I am in agreement though that in my searches I see JSA as worse. Just my opinion though.

I think most would put PSA above JSA. They have both had some bad errors. I use them in addition to my own studying and the help of others.

Mistakes are one thing, forgivable to an extent.  But when things like laziness, incompetence, big egos and greed start flying into the mix, then I'm obviously less forgiving.

In my mind, the ultimate goal of authentication is to erase doubts about authenticity.  If a company routinely fails at that for whatever reason, then that authentication brand becomes largely worthless to me.  The JSA and PSA/DNA stickers still leave me with plenty of lingering doubt in my mind.  Hence, they just aren't worth much to me personally.

I prefer JSA for sports autographs and PSA for entertainment autographs.
