My father's collection of classic movie, sports, military and political autographs

Hi all,

Good to see so many autograph enthusiasts here.  My father is interested in selling off some of his collection of (classic movie, sports, military, political) autographs.  We were going to sell them on ebay, but given their recent terrible return policy of up to 6 months, we obviously can't rely on them.  But we also don't want to sell to a professional dealer, knowing the kind of profit margins they require to stay in business.  So, the collection has roughly 90 autographs in it and we're wondering:  where should we sell them, and to whom?  What has your experience been in the buy/sell/trade group of this website?

Any advice would be appreciated.  Also, if you're wondering about authenticity, my father interviewed the majority of the people he got his autographs from for a community service program that he taught to foreign born students.  You can see pictures of this on his website confirming the famous people he met and knew.  http://www.orcodevelopment.org

I was wondering what the community on AML thought this letter is worth. I know what you are asking, but I won't reveal that. I would like to see what other experienced collectors think it is worth. Thanks!

History for Sale has one for $35,000, so I would say $3,500-$7,000.

I personally wouldn't pay more than $1500 if even that given it was signed before he was president and the letter is in poor shape. That being said, I could see this going for that range at a major auction house, probably closer to the $3,500 total though. A nice pristine hand written letter from his time as President and then we would see the $7000 figure reached.

Sell it around November when his prices are best and I think it could hit close to $4,000 in a well publicized auction. This would mean bringing home less due to sellers premium.
