Here's a signed poster that I'm sure most of you guys have already seen.It was sold on rr a while back and more recently on iconic. The first picture is of the piece in its original untouched condition.the second picture is of the same piece with major restoration work to it.The owner was asking me if I was Interested in buying it.With that kind of work done to a piece such as this, should I totally pass on it.How much can this effect the value?

I know.there are ways to minimize them though.

I remember that 'autographed' copy of Sgt. Peppers that Frank Caiazzo had on his website about 5 years ago. Four 1967 signatures lifted from a page that matched the colour of the inside of the gatefold sleeve. Way too far IMO.

I'm not sure the color even has to match anymore. They can supposedly just take off the actual coating. We need a lab in the autograph field that analyzes all these things.

Here's an article in ArtBusiness.com, an art consultancy, that discusses damaged, repaired and restored art. It's a great read for anyone following this discussion:

Jason just sent me an image of the entire poster. It is actually a double poster which I thought was pretty cool.Question is,do I mount it opened up or just the single.Im thinking the single but if I leave it opened up this piece would be a huge 24x20. Thoughts??
Here's the picture.

Paul that is such a wonderful piece!! Wow, I really think that is cool. Not a huge fan of resoration, but knowing the signatures weren't touched up, I believe you struck gold. Congratulations.
Thank you Adam.here it is again with the picture turned around.

Paul,

I think your poster just went from a good buy to a GREAT buy! Definitely, mount it open. In autographs, like gems and other things...size matters.

Here it is, rotated. Click to enlarge:

It's crazy,I was just talking to Jason again today and I asked him to send me a picture of the piece with just his phone and this is what he sent.He never told me the piece opened up.This story just gets crazier and crazier by the minute.I agree now that it is a nice bonus surprise.
Here is the picture of the back
