Ridiculous Prices for GFA-Certed Items-Sellers Aware of What They Are Selling?
I cannot believe the stupidity. This seller had 10 of these!!! 10! $199 or best offer for a photo "signed" by Dimaggio, Ford, Martin, and Mantle???? Come on, please. At least price it so that it is not obvious that you KNOW you are selling crap.
So how much is a GFA certification? $100 bucks? Doesn't leave much profit for someone to buy an authentic signed photo of ANY of these players. What? These are machine signed? oh, ok, that explains it.
How much longer will this be tolerated by Ebay?

It would seem quite easy for Ebay to weed out these particular sellers. It's beyond me how they do let something this blatant go on unimpeded. With that said, when are buyers going to use a bit of caution before they buy? This fraud is well exposed and can be googled in about 30 seconds.

It's unfortunate, Joe, that Ebay is so heavily-populated with wannabe autograph collectors, suckers and impulse buyers and people with no common sense.

you have to be delusional to think you can get an authentic photo of these Yankee greats for $199 or Best Offer. what I dont understand is why more people aren't pissed off about it. I have tried to stay quiet through all this nonsense, but something has to be done. If you start to look at feedback of these GFA sellers (most of them are in Florida) you will start to see some dings.....people who either had the items rejected by PSA or just decided themselves that they are forgeries. It's starting to get noticed.

That particular image with those forgeries of Mantle, DiMaggio, Ford and Martin with a laughable COA from GFA (Stephen Rocchi) have been listed and sold on Ebay hundreds of times.
Ebay has always made a killing from the sales of forgeries for the past twenty years.

after 3 years it's starting to get noticed. So was the Nicolas Birdsack stuff, Then The GAI stuff, then the Global Assthentics stuff, then the CSC stuff. Then ALL Tony Podsada Danny Graves disease stuff. It's a cluster F. AND that's why I no longer support Scam Bay, or Scam Pal. I'm OUT and you all should be too.

We need a class action lawsuit brought against eBay for letting this happen. They have been called numerous times by several of us, yet completely ignore without even a returned call. I guarantee you there is mail fraud, tax evasion, etc. A lawsuit is sitting right there in the open, just waiting for someone to jump on board. All you need is the inclusion of a still living athlete whose name is being used in this fraudulent activity. Even Sandy Koufax's agent stated that items with a GA/GAI cert is fake. Athletes who have their own companies should be easy to get such as Bobby Orr, Brett Favre, etc. Schwartz Sports who represent Barry Sanders should be another.

I agree Steve. Or somehow get the FBI's attention, as they could put together the pieces of this puzzle quickly just tracking the Ebay sellers that peddle this crap.

I would think that eBay would me more concerned, if not for the idiotic buyers of this crap, for their own company. I mean...I'm no lawyer, but could they be held liable as a co-conspirator in this obviously fraudulent activity? Ebay is the conduit for these illegal sales to go on.

Legally, eBay is likely protected BECAUSE the item has a COA. In most states the standard is high with regards to a business being negligent. eBay would only have to exercise "normal care". They have a COA banned list, and for whatever reason GA/GAI and the like aren't on it. The items, to the untrained eye, look close to the real thing. That's an almost impossible case to win. No judge could tell that fake Mantle from an authentic one. And any side in any case would dig up a "qualified" expert witness to contradict the other side's "qualified" expert witness.
I think the only angle with any legs would be against the third party authenticator. They are the enabler. They are slapping the AAA rating on the garbage mortgage bond. Given the vast number of autographs GFA/GA/GAI have authenticated in the last 5 years from deceased athletes, I don't think it would be difficult to argue that they either knew or should have known they were dealing with forgery rings.
It would be very difficult to prove that any given autograph is not authentic. Again, you'll end up with dueling experts. But I can't imagine if law enforcement executed search warrants and/or subpoenas they wouldn't find evidence of a scenario where there is no possible way any reasonable person, much less a "trusted" expert, would conclude that the thousands and thousands of shinny new autographed items from deceased athletes (that have been dead for 20+ years ) and current superstars (who only sign with companies they contract with) were authentic. If M. Jordan only signs in volume with Upper Deck, why would some shady guy in Florida have 250 MJ signed photos? I think there is a case there. If anybody, besides real collectors, cared.
That said. We will probably be all here 5 years from now complaining about the same thing.

If it merely having a COA then why did a Roger Epperson COA get removed? There is more to this story. I do believe that, at this point, Ebay does have a idea that many, many forgeries are being sold on their site. Isn't these particular authenticators not recognized by Ebay? It would me so easy to flag references on them in the items descriptions and remove them if desired. Least in my humble opinion.
