Hi

I am currently in a situation where I have no job and money is tight so it might have to be, although I don't want to, an option to sell off my autograph collection.

The problem is, I don't have the money in order to get a proper authentication on my autographs so I was wondering, what would be the best route for me to go down as I would need the money fairly quickly.

I am based in the UK and I cannot guarantee that all of the autographs are real in my collection, based on opinions which I fully respect, on AML.

Please if anyone can help, can you PM me.

Thank you,

Robin

I think you just have to put the items here for sale with clear pics in the buy/sell/trade section, maybe giving the background story on each item on how and from who you obtained them. Their are enough experts here that will quickly see if it's real :-). Or maybe put them on RACC on Facebook or on ebay, I don't know if you have sold there in the past.
You can also ask a quick opinion from Roger Epperson but that will cost you money of course.
Good luck with the sales!
+1 Skip authentication and let the group here see pics and prices. If people are skeptical of a graph they will speak up.

The only thing I could do is post images and the backstory to each piece and those which I believe are real and which I believe are not. :)

However, that might take some work and whether or not people have the patience. :

Hello Bjorn

Thanks for taking the time -I must say I've never heard of RACC. I am a bit wary of selling on EBAY seeing as there are so many bogus dealers that my items would be lost amongst them and then and rightly so, people would become suspicious, even if the items you were selling were genuine.

I wouldn't post in the buy/sell/trade unless I was absolutely convinced the item I was selling was the real deal - It is my belief I have been scammed with some items in my collection, but its all about living and learning and I've never really got around to sorting it out and I know its something I must do.

I would need to investigate Face Book and see the best way to sell (through RACC probably as you have suggested).

What I am looking for is someone who might be willing to give me the time just to look at my images and then come in agreement, those that do have knowledge, as to whether pieces in my collection are real or not as I would need sales sooner, rather than later.

As I say, this is really something I'm not keen to do, just an option for me in case money does become tight, to the point where I would need additional income.

If anyone could help me, I would be eternally grateful, so if you could PM me, but I would appreciate the money aspect so if its not possible, that's that.

People on here know I am an honest person/collector so it would go against my principles to go against that.

Cheers,

Robin

No problem Robin.
But ok, maybe you can indeed wait to put them in the Buy section untill you have a "green light" from the experts here.
I don't know how many items you are planning to sell. But why not make a topic here on the ones you have doubts on, show some pics and let the experts give you their opinion. If they all say it's good, you can easily sell them here or even elsewhere.
I think it will be a difficult story to send all the items to let's say one person, who must then give his or here opinion for free. That is also just 1 opinion.

Hi Bjorn

Thank you for your continued assistance in this matter. Under no circumstance would I put anything in the sell section that had a '?' over it, since I am an honest collector and would not scam people in the way I have been in the past, which has affected my confidence in this hobby, to be honest.

I would have about 20-30 pics-ish to post to ask for opinion on. I wouldn't expect people to give their opinions for free who were established authenticators as that wouldn't be just.

However, I think I may do that and see what comes of it. Thanks again Bjorn.

Best, Robin

You're welcome Robin. Good luck!
And I see you are an honest collector, so don't worry too much about your image/reputation :-).

Thanks Bjorn,

Tomorrow I think what I will do, if I get the time as I am quite busy looking for jobs :(, is to post a topic with the photos that I am not 100% confident over.

Then what I might do is post the ones I am confident over, just to get the additional 'green light' and go ahead and consider selling off my collection. Then to find a buyer.

I would prefer to sell my collection in bulk so I would need to find someone who was willing to buy.

Thanks again Bjorn and indeed, my reputation/image is something that is very important to me.

Robin

Sorry to hear about your financial troubles.
I agree…posting pics of your items along with your asking price might be the way to go.
Good luck !!

Hi A.B.

Thanks for taking the time - what I'm going to do is post one topic with the images and historical information, when I get the time to do so (mixed in with job hunting) and get general consensus.

Then, once opinion has been garnered, I will post the ones I believe to be genuine, just to absolutely make sure with the "green light" and then work from there.

I might go through dealers as well as I would rather sell in bulk rather than just in singular.

Thanks A.B.,

Robin

Robin, I, too, am sorry to hear about your problems.

At one time or another, we all go through the same thing, so please hang in there.

Thx Christopher.

The good news is I can get a refund on the vast majority of items in my collection which would more than make up for the items I cannot, should they prove to be false.

Overall, I think I might lose around just short of a grand but with the items I can sell and other assets besides, it's not a major thing, just a lesson learnt and there would be, sadly, people out there who would have spent a fortune on just one piece and it turns out to be non authentic.
