What's the opinion of silver sharpies? I've read that they have an issue with smearing, as well as fading over time. I also have gold and, well, black. I'm planning on having this signed tomorrow: IMG_2301.JPG

I have come to prefer silver sharpies, generally they show better on most photos, albums depending on backgrounds. Next would be black because I feel blue would fade sooner. not sure about smearing but the old silver<gold paint pens will chip or stick to some plastics so beware.

they are ok on duller , less shiny surfaces.  I prefer silver to gold,

Blue or Silver for me. Just depends on the photo... They will smear if you touch it immediately after it is signed, but if you blow on it, it's good to go after about 15-20 seconds.

On that photo I would go Gold since In my opinion it drys quicker then silver and is less likely to come out faint if it's cold ect

I've had problems with gold metallic Sharpies.  I had two signatures literally evaporate on me last year within an hour of getting them at a convention.  Luckily the celebs redid them for me in another color.  Silver and Bronze have always worked well for me.

I had an autograph disappear on me using the same type of Sharpie. Mine disappeared over a longer period than an hour but is gone nonetheless. The only thing I would trust this pen on would be something paper-based like a note-card maybe. I think it would hold the ink better.

I want to get a blue deco pen. Those usually look great.

It does seem like the quality has improved over the years.  I'd still opt for a Sharpie oil-based paint pen, but the metallic sharpies seem to be okay.

Sharpie makes a "industrial" version that is around a buck more than there regular pen. You can basically wash the item you get signed and it still won't fade. They sell them at staples or office supply stores.

Sharpie paint pens are garbage.

Deco-color paint pens are the best.

Blue and red sharpie fade quickly when exposed to sunlight. Black doesn't and silver only does a  little.

Had a really nice signature of Rory McIlroy ruined because I had it done in silver sharpie. The signature started coming off almost immediately. Because of that I ended up trying to find the best and easiest to use silver pen and settled on the Uni Paint silver marker. It's the same one Upper Deck uses. Here is a post I made about it last year here

This was right after it was signed, below is how it looks now.

Oh wow. An autograph dealer at the mall was the one that advocated against silver on photos. It really does come off then. Glad I asked.

I would have that photo signed with a black Sharpie.

That's what I ultimately did. It actually came out great.
