Here's a description of this item from when it was previously sold at auction:

Jimi Hendrix Autographed Airline Envelope obtained Wednesday, August 16. 1967. Signed by Jimi Hendrix - Experience, "Mitch" Mitchell - drums, Noel Redding - guitar and bass. This is one of the earliest autographs of The Experience just two months after the group arrived in the States and their debut at the Monterey International Pop Music Festival, June 16-18, 1967. The autograph is dated just two days before they opened at the Hollywood Bowl, Friday night, August 18, 1967. Hendrix, Mitchell and Redding are the original three who formed The Experience in London the previous year. I received the autographs directly from Jimi Hendrix, Mitchell and Redding on United Airline flight #81 from Pittsburgh to Los Angeles and stopping in Detroit. My flights originated in Allentown, PA (ABE) and changed in Pittsburgh to Flight #81. The Pittsburgh-Los Angeles flight stopped in Detroit where the group boarded after they performed two shows in Ann Arbor the night before. They opened at the Hollywood Bowl later that week on Friday, August 18. I sat and talked with Hendrix and the group for about an hour during the flight. The only paper I had with me was my United Airlines ticket envelope, which they all signed. Mitchell and Redding slept most of the time but Jimi and I talked for about an hour during the flight. The autographs have been in my personal possession ever since they were signed on August 16, 1967.

I think most of us thought the Mitch was too odd to be true. I seem to remember that a contributor to this site bought the envelope at a UK auction for a relatively reasonable sum (but over $5k) and "flipped it" for a handsome profit at RR. He believed Mitch had just been tired, stoned or both. I know we had a long discussion about it on this site.

thanks for your replies yes thats correct we did,it niggled me for a long time i even contacted RR which fell on deaf ears, they got wrapped up in the provenance and didnt actually look at what was in front of them , would a correct description have affected its value at auction possibly but i suppose we will never know

While Mitch is obviously not the "key man" I would think it would make quite a big difference to desirability and value. A bit like the Beatles with and without Ringo. With the Experience being a threesome I would say his absence would affect value even more.

i agree i think it detracts the value
