Maybe I'm incorrectly analyzing this, but there seems to be a bit of a trend I'm seeing that is a both puzzling and a bit unsettling.  I've noticed a few sports memorabilia dealers who have an other wise excellent reputation pointless dabbling in celebrity autographs they have no clue about.  There's a local memorabilia dealer who is one may favorites.  They only sell Steiner, MM, USA, etc. and items obtained at their own public and private signings.  As far as sports merchandise, authenticity is rock-solid.  I've even been to a few of ther Packers' public signings over the past couple of years.  However, inexplicably, on their website they sell some pretty questionable if not outright fake celebrity autographs.  I don't get this at all.  Steer clear of stuff you don't know, and you have a rock solid reputation.  Do dealers feel some need to expand?

The seller I'm referring to to is www.legendsofthefield.com.  Immediately found a fake Bono, a couple of questionable Springsteens and what looks to be a Jimmy Stewart autopen.

I visted a Field of Dreams store (franchise is affiliated with Mounted Memories and FansEdge I believe).  All their sports stuff looked great (although pretty overpriced). Then I looked through some of their framed music and movie star autographs and couldn't believe how bad they were!  Just not even close.  Now it doesn't take away from the authenticity of a UDA or Steiner certifed football or mini helmet, but it just looks incompetent and careless.

Is this common, and why do these otherwise good dealers even toy with tarnishing their image?
