Hello!
Just happened to find this site and thought someone might find this interesting and would have something to add. From time to time I will buy a book or two at auction. I bought a two volume set called "The Philosophy of the Inductive Sciences" by William Whewell. (1840) Both these volumes are signed by Thos. Taylor Meadows who later became known for his book titled "Desultory Notes on the Government and People of China and on the Chinese Language" It remains to this day one of the most important foreign language descriptions of this era of chinese history (The Chinese and their Rebellions: Thomas Taylor Meadows on Taiping Warfare and the Emergence of the Traditional Chinese Martial Arts.)
I am likely going to sell these books but it would be nice to find someone that is actually interested in this history. Any thoughts? Thanks so much!
