Chas Newby - Played on bass guitar for The Beatles at Litheland Town Hall on Tuesday the 27th of December. Staurt Sutcliffee had chosen to stay in Germany with his girlfriend Astrid until early January and Paul McCartney was not playing bass guitar so, Pete asked Chas Newby from The Blackjacks would he cover The Beatles shows until Stu returned. Chas said he would and did. His memory - I already knew The Beatles were a force. We had played at the Casbah on the 17th of December and taken the roof of the place, but I wasn't expecting the reaction we had at Litherland Town Hall. The other groups on the bill had the dance floor full, people dancing, having a good time, but when The Beatles started you could see the astonishment on peoples faces. The floor ground to a halt and people came running to the stage. It was fantastic, girls screaming, lads cheering. I knew right then the group had something very special.
The Deltones played Litherland Town Hall on Tuesday the 27th of December 1960. Their memory of the night is not knowing who The Beatles were. Someone said they were from Germany. When The Beatles played they were a force. They were doing Rock N Roll, but not the way the other groups did it. Other groups copied the record exactly, The Beatles were doing their own thing, two lead guitar solos, doubling up choruses, swapping the lead vocal amongst themselves. The town hall crowd couldn't get enough of them.
Permalink Reply by DB on April 9, 2011 at 12:59am From Judy Garland’s gingham dress from “The Wizard of Oz” to John Wayne’s Civil War uniform from “How the West Was Won” this auction is sure to be packed with some of the most recognizable, desirable and yes, even iconic pieces from cinema history. Unfortunately, the prices are also likely to reflect that, so only a very unique and blessed group of people will be able to bid on some of these pieces.
“My lifetime dream has been to assemble and preserve the history of the Hollywood film industry. Hollywood has been an enormous part of my life as I know it has been for countless fans all over the world. This collection represents a lifetime of collecting Hollywood artifacts and this is a rare opportunity to own a piece of Hollywood history for those who love the movies as much as I do. For the first time in nearly five decades, these iconic pieces will be made available to the public through a series of auctions presented by Profiles in History beginning in May 2011,” Reynolds said. Permalink Reply by DB on April 20, 2011 at 8:16am Wow, have you seen the R&R Preview for their Hollwood Auction coming up in May. Now, if I can just hit the megamillion lottery!
It's a good thing Taylor has passed away otherwise she might take a bat to Eaton and Bl as it's Elizabeth not Liz (lol) but we should have a lottery on what her love letter's go for (the winner gets a free meal from Cyrkin!) even with such a nominal opening bid. I say $36,000.
Looks like it is going to be a great set of items up for grabs. Maybe I could change my name to Ruth for the 3 stooges one but that would confuse those already confused with those who hang on every word from Don Barcardi.
BL - looks like that is going to be a fun auction...

Marilyn Monroe's diamond-encrusted wedding band from Yankees legend Joe DiMaggio is set to go up for auction, Profiles in History's auctions announced Wednesday and is set for December 15-17.
A nude painting of Monroe, signed by the artist, Earl Moran, will also be auctioned and is expected to fetch $70,000 to $90,000.
The Monroe-DiMaggio union lasted barely a year, with biographers describing the romance as tumultuous and filled with violence. The actress then married playwright Arthur Miller but when her third marriage ended in 1961, she rekindled her relationship with the baseball star. DiMaggio even planned to ask Monroe to remarry him before her apparent suicide from a drug overdose in 1962, according to historians. After Monroe's death at age 36, DiMaggio claimed her body and arranged her funeral.
