To me owning a signed copy of the original "Purple Rain" LP would be the ultimate Prince item. This signed copy of "Purple Rain" sold in open bidding, I believe with around 15 bidders, on eBay for $2200 less than a week after Prince died.

To me, that was an absolute steal. I think this is no doubt authentic. The seller was the person who got Prince to sign it in the early-to-mid 80s. I think he said he managed a recording studio (maybe in Seattle - not sure) when Prince was in town and wanted to use the studio.

Now that many of us know a little more about his signature, I think this album could already fetch perhaps $5000. Right after Prince's death, many people were hesitant to bid too high because many people were unfamiliar with his signature. But now that we know a little more, I think this could really go for much more. I offered the guy $3000 if he could give me a month to pay it off, but he didn't want to wait.

Whoever got this has a jewel. I can't believe the seller let it go that cheap. Personally, I wouldn't have sold it for less than $5000.

What do you think?

I mean...how many signed copies of this LP even exist? $5000 could be a great underestimate.

Either way a great investment piece!
