Russell...good for you and your listia free autos...keep posting them...don't care...dont care...don't care...iam here to show the difference between what a real and fake autos look like...thats my expertise....PIN POINTING FAKES !!!!.._IAM HERE TO HELP NOT TO FIGHT....its like beating a dead horse with you...u want to hear that your right and iam wrong ? ..You win....I don't F**N care...you do you...it would be nice if you show what you received and not just read about a give away auto you got from listia...oh and please post those emails were celebritys are willing to provide a free autographed item and pay the shipping on top of that...please do that for me...I don't want to miss that train were celebs are so kind to do that...as far as celebritys asking for the cash for an auto well...read between the lines instead of quoting...last time I looked paying isn't free so you figure it out...according to my terms right ? Man your funny...please show me when a celeb charged you for an auto and you got ripped off with an autopen or a forgery...please do that for me as well...that kind off defeats the purpose of paying the celeb don't you think ?..show me when that happened...and no sorry I don't have to show off what I own and drop names...this is for ttm autos not who spends more bread on there hobby so please continue with your free listia autos you receive...iam glad you receive our autos that way...iam really happy for you...really Iam congrats

First off, Listia auctions are free. I have never sent a single dime for a Listia win. That is an "unfiltered fact"! And according to you, "a FREE autograph to me is a succesfull ttm...for the price of the stamp and envelope" I guess then you wouldn't consider an e-mail request a ttm success as you didn't pay for a stamp or envelope. Also, you didn't answer my question about sending money to a player. All you said was that "at least you know your getting an authentic item directly from the source for far less then a autograph seller would." In your terms, that wouldn't be a ttm success because you paid money for the autograph! Also, just because they will tell you that they will sign it for x amount of dollars, how do you know they really did? You don't think that I have done this long enough to know what a forgery, secretarial, or an autopen looks like? Why don't you go ahead and start your little auction page? It seems to me like you want to brag about all of the auctions you win and drop names of the dealers that you buy from anyway. Sounds to me like you're the one with "deep pockets", "buddy".

agree to disagree is fine with me...

its not being on a soap box its just pure unfiltered facts...keep posting your lista wins...I dont care...you bought them so show it off...I got a good Idea...how about you start a thread of ttm autos you purchased that were auction purchased...I will blow your page up all week with winning auctions that were shipped to me...as a matter of fact if you don't do it I will and we can go from there....fair enough ?...a FREE autograph to me is a succesfull ttm...for the price of the stamp and envelope of course...if they charge...hey at least you know your getting an authentic item directly from the source for far less then a autograph seller would... and not something signed by there wife or a possible forgery at auction...

It seems as though we should just agree to disagree. If you don't like how I collect or how I obtain a signature, that's fine, but don't come in here and get on a soap box and start barking about what constitutes a ttm success. As I stated before, this group has had plenty of posts, some of which talked of Listia wins, and there has never been a problem from anyone until you came along.

Here's a quick question: If I write to a ball player and he sends my item back UNSIGNED with a PRICE LIST, but I decide that I will shell out the money that he wants along with my sase, does that make it a SUCCESSFUL ttm or do I just have "deep pockets" for shelling out the money to acquire the autograph that I want? Because, to me, I would call it a ttm success as I wrote a letter to said ball player, I enclosed an item to be signed and a sase. The only extra that I added was a check or money order for that player's signature. But according to your standards of what a ttm success is, the minute that I sent some sort of compenstaion to the player, it stopped being a ttm request, right?

OK Russ...I am no trying to have a p****** contest here with you about an opinion on who's right or wrong OK...I respect your opinion as a collector...this is not a COMPLAINT as you call it...its more of a choice of opinion WHICH WE ALL HAVE AS AMERICANS...complaining is what kids do in toys R us when they don't get what they want...now that's just plain childish...I am not making a debate here but since you have your drawn out answer on how you feel...here's mine...

You consider any autograph you receive through the mail a ttm success STORY correct ? REALLY ????? sooooo would I then consider the Pete Rose...John Force...Beyonce and Brett Favre autos I purchased during the Christmas Holiday for gifts a success simply because I paid for the piece and the shipping and it was mailed to my house ?...or the thousands of autographs I have acquired over the years that I payed for and received ttm ?? and forget about the regular auction sites...i am talking ordering autos from LASTLICKS or STEINERSPORTS that were purchased for a flat out price mailed to me ?...thats a successful ttm auto ?? not to mention the many autos I have won at auction from SOTHEBY'S AUCTION HOUSE or LELANDS AUCTIONS or autographs I purchased from RICHARD SIMON SPORTS that were sent to my house that I paid for ?? that's a sucessfull ttm in your opinion ????...THAT IS BEYOND RIDICULOUS !!!!!!!...that just means your being passionate about what you love and SPENDING THE MONEY FOR IT...I do agree with you 1000 percent that when you say "Just because you mail the celebrity directly at there home, doesn't mean that it is anymore personally signed that an item that is acquired on an auction site". This is true...mailing any thing to any celebrity may not be answered by the actual person and you can receive an auto pen...or a facsimile auto...rubber stamped auto...secretarial auto...a wifes signature like in Don Zimmers case...all are absolutely true...when I send an item to a celebrity I already know what there autograph looks like and I know the difference between whats good and whats bad...since I have been doing this just as long as you have and doing extensive research and looking at authentic examples...and knowing the difference between an authentic item and a fake or secretarial item since most of what I collect is from one team and one sport for the most part... as far as people wanting your head for an "ADDY" that's also plain childish...you did the work and you reap the reward...plain and simple...if want to extend the olive branch that's on you personally...I myself love this hobby...I take it very seriously and I am extremely beyond passionate about auto collecting and will help any one in any way shape or form reap the rewards I have many times in the past by sending items to celebrity's and not because I had deeper pockets then the next bidder and won an auction and I got it TTM...sorry that to me is NOT being successful in the TTM hobby it just means you WANTED the item more and you were WILLING to spend more then the next guy...and people mailing each other autographs on here...hey...iam all for that myself...its better to give then to receive and in this hobby I have done much MORE giving then receiving from having double autos over the years or getting an auto from a celebrity and putting in the effort to give to someone else that doesn't know how easy it is for just a simple letter...and a S.A.S.E ...NOW THATS A SUCCESFULL TTM EXPERIENCE...NOT HOW MANY AUCTIONS YOU WON...that just makes you in my eyes a very passionate and SUCESSFULL BIDDER...the difference between buying an autograph OR a friend OR A member sending you an autograph is there's no work involved...its just doing the right thing for others in the industry...and have nothing against that...this is my point...paying for an auto or winning a bid just makes the item you purchased worth the amount of money you paid for it... that's being a successful bidder or a frivolous spender which I myself fall into both of those categories...but once again like Steve mentions in this thread the terms that he uses as "successful mailing addresses" or "home addresses unless you're sure the celebrity wants to receive mail" are considered autographs you received ttm from the celebrity like fans did in the olden days...before the internet and auction sites...a simple letter and a S.A.S.E...not something you won at auction...sorry..thats my opinion and iam sticking to it...thats like saying Ralph Lauren was going to gave you a sweater for free just pay for shipping only BUT instead you ordered one on line and it was sucessfully purchased and shipped to your house...there's nothing the same about that buddy...HAPPY COLLECTING !!!

Well, that's your opinion and you are entitled to it. I stick by my theory of the fact that I am getting the item in the mail with postage that I paid for, therefore, its a ttm success. I do a lot of collecting by writing to celebrities. I have been collecting ttms for over 25 years,  I also supplement the times that I don't have the money for postage by using Listia. I'm not a big fan of Fee Bay.  Just because you mail the celebrity directly at there home, doesn't mean that it is anymore personally signed that an item that is acquired on an auction site. You never even know if the celebrity in question even looks at thier mail. For many years, Don Zimmer's wife has been known to sign autograph requests sent to his home. Not exactly a "personally signed item"  from a player's home.

This group has gone 139 pages and never once has anyone complained about online auction successes. You are the first. Congratulations.

One of the things that I have always liked about this group as opposed to some other sites that I have been on if the fact that there is no pressure to post successful addresses used, post pictures, or whether you got it on-line or with a sase. On my yahoo group, they nearly call for your head if you don't post an addy! These guys are different and a good lot. If we need addresses, we ask and others comply. Some people have time to post pics, which is awesome. I,personally, don't have the time to do it. There are also quite a few of us that like to post some things that we got in our mailbox that , by your definition, isn't a true ttm. Most of the time, we have gotten kudos on our acquisitions.

You added the quote from the group discription and it talks about the "passion" of collecting autographs "by mail". Where does it say "by SASE only" or "online purchases don't count"? What about some of the people on here that send other members autographs for no reason other than to be nice and extend the autograph olive branch? Those don't count either?

We are all passionate about this hobby or we wouldn't be here. We all have different things to collect and different ways of collecting. I feel that we should just all get back to the business of collecting and stop with such pettiness of whether an on-line auction win is considered a ttm success.

Hey Russ...I wouldn't consider items purchased form auctions sites true TTM autos...Winning something at auction from someone selling there item that either they purchased or got signed in person really is not a TTM autograph...thats just my personal out look...Every thing that I post on here as some other collectors are autographs that they or I got Directly from the athlete Through The Mail...sending items to there house or P.O.Box and have them personally sign and then sending it back using a S.A.S.E...just like Steve says on this thread...

"If collecting by mail is one of your passions, this is your group! Share tips, experiences and current successful mailing addresses. But don't share home addresses unless you're sure the celebrity wants to receive mail there".

If they come in the mail, why wouldn't they be a ttm success?
