Jeffery, not to pick on the guy who posted about the private signing but I looked at the website. I am a life long Cardinals fan. David Freese' autograph was $55 on there. That's a free autograph in my book. He started for the Cards at 3B for part of the season and then injuries. His numbers were ok. He's not going to be a star. The Cards are in trouble if he starts at 3B next year. I guess I am used to $5 autographs that would get at shows when I was a kid in the 80s. HoF to be Ozzie Smith was $5 when I was a kid. I have paid $75 for Stan Musial but he's the greatest Cardinal of all time. $75 Stan Musial vs $55 David Freese...what's wrong with this picture?

anoher great day for mail. I received a very nice 5x7 of paula dean, she is one of my favorite cooks. As i went out to the car, i noticed that there was another very large envelope in my box after i had gotten the mail earlier. this timei found a nice 8x10 0f one of the cats of eastenders. not real sure of his name now. i sent so many requests and the medicine makes me forget very easy. i need to start writing them down as i send. you think. will add to site, this week end

Hey Mark, I can't really tell you why sports autographs cost so much, other than supply and demand; the supply being limited, and the demand in that everyone may want an autograph of a certain player. However, I have learned some "tricks" to cut down on some of the high prices:
1.) Wait until the player is traded. I recently picked up autographed photos of Gregor Blanco and Yunel Escobar, 2 former Braves, for $5 a piece. When they appeared at shows around town during their time here in Atlanta, the show fee was about $25 for each. They are both really good young ball players who have tremendous futures ahead of them, but since they are no longer on the team, the demand for their autographs dropped off, and so did the price.
2.) Get the player in an odd team's jersey. For instance, when you think of Joe Namath, you think about him as the great New York Jet quarterback, not the beaten and battered quarterback playing out his career as a Los Angeles Ram. If all you want is the autograph, it should not bother you as to what jersey he is in.
3.) GET THEM EARLY!!!!! Although they are absoultely boring to me, I read some of the "can't miss prospects" publications out there for the various sports and their franchises. I find out who has the potential to be the next big star, and either write to them or go to minor league games to obtain their autographs before they become that big star in demand. I stood in line with 6 people and paid a meager $35 bucks (autograph + photo) in November of 2008, on a little known prospect named Jason Heyward. Now, you can't even sniff a Heyward autograph for less than $100. Those are a few things I do to try and cut down on prices somewhat.

I sent a $25 donation to Tippi Hedren about a month ago because I really wanted her autograph. I am a big Hitchcock fan. I got the autographed picture today. I figured maybe a current photo would be sent since she was providing the picture. I was very happy that it was a publicity photo from The Birds. She personalized it to me...To Mark With Fear!! Tippi Hedren. I love it!

Why are sports autographs so expensive? That's crazy prices.
