Up for sale is a rare "To Kill a Mockingbird" author Harper Lee signed, hand written letter with great content. Letter also comes with the original mailing envelope which was addressed in her hand. Ms. Lee offers some recommendations of authors for the recipients of the letter. This gives some extremely rare insight into Harper Lee's literary preferences. The letter reads as follows:
30 August 1997
And thanks for your letter if you remember it. I'm like Rip Van Winkle at letter-writing, but the truth is, I get so many, sometimes I don't know where to begin.
The writer you can't find is ANTHONY TROLLOPE, not Frollope - hope I didn't make a typo - but thinking it over, he may be a bit old for you, so do wait a while on him. I've read the Anne of Green Gables books, but so long ago that I can't remember them. Have your kids ever come across any books by OWEN JOHNSON? He wrote school stories - The Varmint, Tennessee Shad, etc., a whole series that your library should have; I remember they made a PBS series on them several years ago. These are a lof of fun for young and old. They're clean & well written.
