The Authentic Experience

babe ruth ball 714: $4200

This was in the Coach's Corner Auction that ended January 1, 2010. It was authenticated by forensic document examiner Christopher Morales. Do you think it is real or a forgery?

DB, hey...I think it might be too late for us to stay out of the firing zone.

Do you mean a blog where the articles of interest are cataloged?

What's especially interesting in the article your pointed to is that even Coach's Corner didn't think much of Morales:

"But even the general manager of an auction house that sells scores of Morales-authenticated pieces each year says he doesn't have a lot of confidence in Morales.

"There are authenticators whose work seems better," says Lee Trythall of Coach's Corner. "There are guys who are more qualified."

Steve ...yes ineed a pity it is. Problem with Coache's Corner other than the controversy and prevalent "opiniators" along with I dunno how many lots are offered with not so much of a scan (buy sight unseen) is perhaps summed up in this article on the NY Daily Post from 4/'08 http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/2008/04/19/2008-04-19_be... which sort of sums up the state of disarray that collecting finds itself.

I still say you ought to start a blog where these items of interest are catalogued and available. Then, we all get to make up our own minds and you can stay out of the firing zone.

As far as this ball is concern, the real McCoy is on the first page.

DB...no, Morales wasn't caught up in Operation Bullpen. Frangipani was one of the gang's favorite go-to guys for authentication, but wasn't arrested. What a shame.

Fake - its looks to new. The ball isn't yellow from age.

Once again, I don't like the transition from the R to the u.

wasn't Morales caught up in the operation bullpen sweep? Sort of like saying there was never a connection between Frangipani and Morales Forensic Investigation or Shelly Jaffe got religion. Always hard to assess from a scan but it does appear questionable aside from cleanliness of the ball itself. The be and the loop on the r and swirl ought to be questioned.
