James Leavelle Handcuffed to Lee Harvey Oswald

James Leavelle Single Signed Baseball - (Handcuffed To Lee Harvey Oswald). The citizens of Dallas Texas were excited to see President Kennedy's motorcade in downtown Dallas November 23rd 1963. The excitement turned to horror when sniper Lee Harvey Oswald shot the President perched in the book depository building. James Leavelle is the former Dallas, homicide detective who was escorting Lee Harvey Oswald through the basement of Dallas Police headquarters when Oswald was shot by Jack Ruby. He was the first to interrogate Oswald after his arrest, recalled joking to Oswald before the transfer, " 'Lee, if anybody shoots at you, I hope they're as good a shot as you are.' He kind of smiled and said, 'Nobody's going to shoot at me

Parodied on Family Guy, as well!

I got him TTM a couple years back--great signer.  He also filled out the "Q&A" sheet I sent him. Answers were...complete, yet very...succinct.

Here are a couple more "alterations of the facts" photos of Lee Harvey Oswald. Jim Leavelle signed 2 photos through the mail for me about six years ago with an admonishment that he hoped he wouldn't see  them on e-Bay, but it seems that nowadays his signatures are popping up all over the place! Clint Hill, the Secret Service Agent who climbed up onto the limo is signing fast and furiously. There are new E-Bay listings every day. I'm astonished that some people would list signed photos for more than a hundred bucks. In the last year at book signings he must have autographed thousands of items. As for the Oswald with Banjo pic, who knew that he was a musician?  I sent this photo and several others to Michael Paine in whose home Marina Oswald resided and where Lee allegedly kept his rifle. He doesn't live very far from me, but he's 85 years old and might be a bit forgetful except when talking about Lee Harvey. I called him on the phone, and surprisingly he spoke to me for more than 30 minutes about the Oswalds, mostly about Lee and how he took him to an ACLU meeting. It was priceless. I hope he returns my photos signed, but actually talking one on one to a guy who knew Oswald was mind blowing. I have also met and got signed photos from Ruth Paine who lives at Friend's House, a Quaker retirement community just a few miles from here. She's gracious about signing, and more and more items are turning up on e-Bay, probably without her knowledge. It's obvious that there is a bit of an industry out there when it comes to JFK assassination memorabilia. Some e-Bay sellers seem to have obtained an inordinate number of signed items for re-sale. The fact is, if you Google the names of the people involved who are still living, you can write to them yourself and request their autograph, or conversely you can pay 30 up to 100 bucks and up on e-Bay and save yourself the trouble. As collectors it's always more satisfying to obtain items personally or by mail.
