What's the story behind this?

Forrest C. "Phog" Allen coached basketball for over 40 years at the University of Kansas until 1956. He was taught the game, and played for James Naismith, the inventor of basketball at the the University of Kansas. Naismith gave Allen the title "The Father of Basketball Coaching". Allen was the man who got basketball to be an Olympic sport starting with Berlin Games in 1936.

Thought so. So how did you find this?

I found it on Abebooks. A bookseller in Massachusetts had it for sale. Despite its age, the binding and hinges are tight. It's really tough to find this book with the original dust jacket.

I paid $500 for it. I think in my part of the country, if I wanted to sell, I could probably get about $1000.
