Do PSA/DNA, JSA, and Epperson use the same Exemplars when making determination?

I'm just curious -- do all three companies use the same exemplars when making "likely genuine" or "no likely genuine" decisions? What database do they use? Do all three have access to the same databases? How does one company deem an autograph "likely genuine" while the other deems the same autograph " not likely genuine"? Anyone have an answer?

I know of some people that authenticate items that only have access to what you and I do yet charge a lot of money for what you and I can find

There are the exemplars but what one does with them and how one interprets them is also important. IMHO

I think it's kind of like the legal profession which has many shades of gray. There are (usually) nine SC justices. Many times 5 interpret the law one way, while 4 others believe another way. Maybe autograph authentication is much like the 2nd Amendment...open to interpretation.

And if you ever want to sell your autograph, you just need one to pass it, such as PSA or JSA, or with music...Roger Epperson.

They don't use the same exemplar "database" because their is no central exemplar database. They each put together their own. I'm sure that some of the exemplars they use are the same though.

There's not many Jim morrison around, so they would have the same.There are only a few kurt cobain examplars that certain tpa's trust and use.
I remember Epperson said he has perhaps the second largest Mccartney examplar set and he use to have people send him the scan if they obtained mccartney, so each is personal.

I would think that each has authenticated Morrisons that the others (and we) haven't seen, so even those exemplar files should differ.

Agree. My Gleason exemplars include those which I have identified myself. Bowie as well. I have spoke to others and they do things very different than I do - and others have no idea why I do what I do. I like this in a way - together, these skills combine and illuminate. Separate, they have different, unique strengths.

correct and thats one off the biggest problems and 2 your dealing with human oppinions.

i know for a fact some top inperson stuff that have been rejected that are real by psa

Yes, I know. It has happened manny, many times, not to me but to someone I know well. If sending in an autograph you got in-person yourself and having it rejected doesn't make you lose faith, at least to some degree, in TPAs, I don't know what would. In fact, it happened 100 times to a woman I know who once did a private signing with Mickey Mantle. All her in-persons with Mantle were rejected by PSA. Sorry to others who have heard this story. I'm sure it wouldn't have happened though if those Mantle's had been sent by Presspass.

I can believe that on other autographs, but how can they miss on 100 genuine Mantles? From a signing yet?

And would Mantle do a signing for just 100 items?

I know it's hard to believe, Steve, but it really happened. The woman owned a Sports Collectibles store in Kansas City for several years. In the late 80s, she held a signing event at her store with Mickey Mantle. I don't know if it's actually called a private signing when the public comes in and directly gets an autograph from the star. Regardless, Mantle signed autographs for her store patrons. Afterwards, Mickey signed many more items for her. She still had her store up until about seven years ago, and she told me the story then.

She still had many of these Mantles apparently at least until the early 2000s when she sent them into PSA, and they were rejected. I suppose if PSA was going to reject one they were going to reject them all apparently thinking they were forgeries. I don't remember if she sent in proof of her signing with Mantle when she sent in the items or not. But she said she would never use them again. But the signing with Mantle really took place.

I also confirmed the story with a guy who used to manage the store for her. He now owns an Art and Frame shop in KC. He was actually the guy who framed my Prince signed poster for me. He's also the guy who picked up Mickey Mantle from his hotel and took him to the signing. He confirmed that all those Mantles were rejected by PSA.
