Cheap Steiner ball cubes

There's one batch left. I ordered one last night, half expecting my order to be canceled, but it has a tracking number. :D

$1.02 for UV protected ball cubes seems like a pretty good deal. However, these don't fit older (Spalding & Reach branded) balls. They fit the current Rawlings balls snugly and team branded balls bounce around.

Supposedly they have 20 yr UV protection on the acrylic, but the individual boxes say nothing about that.

I just saw that they also have 36 cubes for $40+$10 shipping, which is probably a better deal for someone who doesn't need 108 cubes. :D

Pretty good deal....I've always wondered about those tight fitting cases...they seem to press the sides of the balls....will that leave permanent damage long term (ie smoosh marks)?

My assumption has always been, yes. If nothing else, constant pressure on one spot of leather would cause a tanning or hardening effect, I'd think. If you're looking to protect older (non-Rawlings) balls, I definitely wouldn't use these. You need to really squeeze them together and maybe even tape the seams. I'd assume that damages not only the ball, but the signatures (if touching the plastic), as well.

When I say it fits MLB balls snugly, I mean it doesn't touch the edges, but doesn't move around either. I don't know how else to explain that.

I just checked the 108 listing, and that deal is sold out. Still the other one ($39.99 + $10 shipping) for 36 cubes isn't too shabby. It seems the $10 is a flat rate type of situation, so you might be able to get them to invoice you for multiple purchases (maybe a glass display or two for your balls you want to display out in the open -- $15 each) and just pay $10 total for the shipping fee.

Thanks for the explanation...as long as it doesn't touch the ball I'm happy. I have received some balls (Omlb) that are in cases that squeeze the ball.

I've never seen a Steiner ball cube and I'd be hesitant to buy 108 before trying some first!

I use Ultra Pro UV ball cubes. They have a three prong stand on the bottom, which I think displays better. Plus, they are slightly bigger than the ball, so there is always a thin space between the ball and the cube wall. Nothing touches or rubs when opening or closing the cube. In quantity, you can get them for about $2 each shipped on eBay.

After doing a head-to-head comparison between Steiner cubes and the 4-prong UltraPro cube that I have (which might be a knock-off, now that I actually looked at it compared to a Chinese one I have), here's what I noticed:

Ultra-Pro has the purplish/bluish hue to the material and is thicker than Steiner.

Steiner has yellowish/whitish hue to the material and is significantly thinner.

I'll get more Ultra-Pro cubes in a couple days to verify this further. Hopefully those are the three-prong variety, so I can do a true comparison of UV to UV.

I got some of the 3-prong UltraPro cubes in with the UV and hologram. The 4-prong one I have doesn't have the hologram.

Anyway, the hologram UltraPro cubes are WAY better than the Steiner ones. The UltraPro ones can fit my Spalding and Reach balls without any issues. The Steiner ones need to be squished closed on the older balls. On Rawlings balls, the Steiner ones are okay. I think I'm going to sell the Steiner ones that I ordered in batches of 12 to just get rid of them on eBay.
