Beatles Autographs from Paul McCartney's worst ever gig!

I've just bought this set from March 1962, when the Beatles played Stroud, Gloucestershire. This was the first time Brian Epstein booked them outside the north of England. Pete Best was still drumming for them, but not for much longer. Unfortunately there's no Paul signature, but he still remembers it well - he always says this was the worst gig they ever played, because hardly anyone showed up and they were pelted with coins!

To answer my own request here are some other early ones, undated but likely late 1961 - mid 1962. These are all from the same album, that also had a nice Buddy Holly.

I think all the lads were more or less all over the place with their signatures at that time. Still in their formative years.

The album was offered on abebooks in 2010 for the best part of £10k. It took a long while to go but it disappeared eventually. I was a bit tempted at the time but the Price and the child-like nature of some of the signatures put me off.

Any chance that any or all are not real? It was originally sold at Phillips back in the New Romantic 1980s (not my favourite decade), before the incentive to forge really got going.

I think you're right, Karl. I don't know Pete Best's writing, but none of the others look real to me.

Not very well, but I do have examples of "Best wishes", "Lots of love", and "Love to...From" inscriptions.

I don't have any examples of "Sincerely", but I bet he knew that it contains only two "E"s.

If you look at the 3rd pic on the left hand page, there's a faded pencil autograph that says 'Happy Christmas, with all my love, John Lennon'. That just doesn't fit with John's personality or his usual way of signing.

If the Beatles signatures are not OK how about some of the others?

I attach the Buddy Holly, Gene Vincent, Little Richard and Billy Fury for good measure.

On tbe topic of shelling out 9,750 for a set of Beatles graphs (being authentic of course) sets are just so expensive and there are plenty about.

Gene vincent is much looser in his writing and flows even if its one of his rougher sigs.it looks like he spent some time writing this and's would be much neater. Billy Fury never seen this so neat and direct.more of scribble on most.coukd be wrong
