Hello everybody. This is my first time on here, my first post. I am a beginning collector, and wish to seek eagles authentic autographs. I have a chance to buy from the guy who has the largest eagles collection, the guy with 400 plus pieces, anyways, he's selling an 11x14 and I'm not sure if it's legit. Opinions? He does sell quite often and his website is loaded with genuine stuff.

Stephen,

These are Don Henley and Randy Meisner signed albums that you're offering for $99 buy it now, for the pair. That's remarkably cheap, isn't it? It worries me because the Henley is not the style we identified. It looks very much like a real Henley, but why would you be selling these for $99 if it was?

You said you got these in-person like the others:

There is no dispute as to the authenticity of this autograph as it is the real deal because I got it in person and was there when it was signed. AUTHENTICITY and 3rd PARTY AUTHENTICATORS may give you that warm fuzzy feeling with a signed piece of paper, however, they make countless number of mistakes. Further, they were not there when this item was signed. ALL 3rd party authenticity services are your responsibility.

I was considering purchasing this very same item earlier this week.  Mr. Duncan had offered the same photo (among many other similar options) to me for $750 last fall, so I was shocked to see it listed for $350 and I wanted to pounce.   After taking a second look at his website, I noticed some terribly suspicious Ringo's, McCartney's, and Springsteen's - which caused me to take a very close look at these Eagles autographs.

I am attaching an enlarged shot of the Bernie Leadon signature from Duncan's recent eBay sale.  For reference, I have also included an authentic Bernie Leadon on the right side from John Brennan.  Notice on Duncan's how there are MANY starts and stops - whereas on Brennan's it is mostly a smooth flowing signature.  Most notably, the letter 'A' in Leadon's last name appears to have been written, stopped, and then drawn over again.  There is another start/stop between the 'R' and the 'N' in Leadon's first name - which again does NOT appear in Brennan's authentic example.  These peculiarities were - along with the other terrible fakes of Ringo, Paul, and Springsteen, were enough to draw the conclusion for me.

I will also post my comparisons of authentic Glenn Frey autographs next to Mr. Duncan's shortly.

Here are some examples of authentic Glenn Frey autographs on the top, with Mr. Duncan's displayed on the bottom.  It looks close to me, but the overall shape of Mr. Duncan's example looks slightly off.  On the majority of the authentic Freys that I have seen, the 'G' in Glenn is written smoothly, almost like a figure 8 - with a gap between the top hoop and the bottom hoop.  The black arrows that I added should help put perspective on this.

The way that the 'E' in Glenn begins in Mr. Duncan's example does not appear consistent with the authentic examples either. Duncan's starts with a leading tail which intersects the 'G' and the 'L,' this does not occur in any of the real examples where he actually writes out the 'E.'

Lastly, the shape of the tail of the 'Y' in Frey is not consistent with the authentic examples.

Take a look at the 'Y' in Duncan's Glenn Frey, and the 'Y' in Duncan's Don Henley.  Identical.

Great observation about the Y, Neil. I see what you're talking about.

I agree with you about the "GL" in Glenn, too. They comes along with the majority of the Henleys that I didn't like.

But now you're showing us other Henleys that are much better than the ones pointed out before. Scary

Redone for scale and to try to "help" but slant = not easy. What can one say. CLICK for FULL image.

Your "Y same as Frey" observation may explain why Stephen Duncan was offering this Henley with the Meisner signed album on the last page for $99 buy it now:

If anyone still has autographs from Mr. Duncan they should be strongly evaluating their stance on collecting. Every time this topic comes up, more and more evidence surfaces that shows the majority, if not all, of his items to be forgeries. Personally I don't care if the items were blessed by the Pope, PSA or Roger Epperson, evidence is evidence.

One look at Mr. Duncan's eBay account and all of those forgeries he has sold and is currently selling would be enough for any real collector to run the other way, very quickly.

Careful, everyone. Stephen Duncan got ahold of my Social Security Number. He works for First American Title.

Duncan sent me a message with a thinly veiled threat yesterday telling me to delete this discussion and the original one posted on November 30, 2015 and get out of his life. This is what he sent me (I removed my SSN):

If he does it, that's a crime. A felony in some cases. Just sending me this may be a crime. Hopefully he's smart enough not to do it and not to give the number to anyone else.

What a scumbag. I'd call his employer. Good chance he used their tools to get it. clown has been ripping people off for awhile. He knows Ebay won't do anything.

This whole thing has been a dismaying shock. I thought Duncan was beyond reproach. And never sold ANYTHING.
