Is this a real Eddie Van Halen?

Old guy seems legit. Bought it from a very reputable dealer in Vegas who died about 6 years ago. BUT, I sent a pic to Global Authentics (they offer a quick opinion for $10) and they came back with a negative.  So crap. I doubt $10 got me more than a glance at it, but still, it has no COA and I don't want to buy if I can't get someone reputable to say it's authentic, just in case i ever had to liquidate.  So, anyone on here know Eddie VH signature really well? It says Van Halen 07 under the signature and by the way, who would butcher that part so badly if they were doing a fake?  Just a thought.  Any help would be appreciated.

I can't comment on what I can't see, Unless something changes rapidly, yours is not real.I lost track - did anyone here think it was possibly genuine apart from you? That has got to indicate something if true. No offense - solely interested in authenticity Jeff.

No I think only 2 people chimed in. Site isn't exactly what I thought it was, but it's all good. This is a unique situation for sure.

Sometimes when it it a very bad attempted signature some don't respond. I don't say that it the case here but it sure looks it. When I post horrid Bowie's no one responds - they just log it (I hope).

It's not really unique. Fake Eddie Van Halen guitars like this have been all over Craigslist for years.

You are basing all this on the story an old guy told you. None of it can be proven. I have a hard time believing Eddie gave this guy a cheap guitar that he signed On a cheap pick guard. Just cause the guys old and seems trustworthy does not mean he is. Don't let this guy rip you off.

Roger knows Eddie Van Halen well and can give you a good opinion with just a quick glance.

I think you've missed something. It will all be alright. I won't buy unless the other company I paid says it's OK. But you're assuming everyone is a forger and that authenticator are all right. But I've seen plenty of examples of authenticators f****** up. Anyway, your story is all messed up now and I dont want to back over it.

To be fair though you are saying you will only buy if an authenticator says it is good. Which to this point Roger said it wasn't (nevermind GA)

If you like the guitar and feel comfortable with the story then buy it. However a story can be just that...A story.

I think caution should always be justified. No matter how great a nice old man is, he isn't giving it to you for free.

In anycase I don't know his autograph well enough to comment whether it is real or not. I also would make sure to find confirmed real examples.

I am sure you know that googling his autograph will also come up fakes too.

So wotd to the wise always be a skeptic.

Wrong Jeff. I'm a huge skeptic of authenticators but there are some who are pretty good at certain signatures. Roger is really good with these 80 era rock bands. He's probably looked at more Eddie Van Halen's then anyone I know. If it were Lana Del Rey, Adele or Nick Jonas(none of which I would collect just using as an example) I probably don't put as much stock in his opinion on them cause I haven't seen any that I know he's authenticated.

Just trying to give you solid advice. I've just seen way too many people ripped off and don't want to see another.

The original seller was Ed Roman of Roman guitars. He gifted it to the collector who is selling it as compensation for a mess up on one of the custom guitars he built him. That's a lot of he's and hims I know. It was never sold. Still waiting on next and last opinion if it comes back negative. If it's positive (like it's a pregnancy test... Am I a new daddy?!!) then I'll have to get another and then a tie breaker if another comes back positive.
