It's one of only 2 "The Beatles VI" known. The price was reasonable.

Plus that bold marker makes it extra special.

Just incredible!
Such an uneven number for a sale price.

1. Are we sure that the sale prices on this site always repesent the actual price items sell for?

2. I agree with Steve on most things but is $143,000 really reasonable for this?

It's not like this is:

a) one of the really classic Beatles LPs,

b) relates to some really iconic event, or

c) is dedicated to a mega star.

If it was (for instance):

a) a rarely signed "classic" LP like Abbey Road,

b) signed when John said the Beatles were more famous than Jesus,

or

c) was inscribed  "Great meeting you Elvis, best from the Beatles...."

the price definitely would be more reasonable.

I guess it goes back to the old argument about how important the item that's signed is. If you feel that this is key then obviously the fact that there are only two known signed copies will add hugely to the value. For me personally it wouldn't be worth 30x40 times the price of a nicely signed album page but then again I am relatively far down the food chain - never having spent more than $5,000 on a single autograph.

The site would have items on consignment and the album may have sold for slightly less, but it would be insignificant.

The price honestly doesn't surprise me. Less than 140 band-signed Beatles albums are known: 113-120 UK releases, and 15-16 US releases.

Band-signed Beatles albums the most desired category of signed Beatles items known, except guitars. But as far as I know, no undamaged Beatles-signed guitars are known that are believed to be genuine by market authorities.

About 75 of the UK releases are Please Please Me albums; 16-21 With the Beatles; and 8-10 Hard Days Night. No more than a few of these were signed on the front, BTW.

7-8 of the band-signed US releases are Meet the Beatles. I think all were signed on the back, but I can't say that for sure. Two were sold by "Doc" Gordon's family through a regional Tennessee antique auction house about 5 years ago, and went for lower prices because of it than they would likely have brought otherwise. I think about $45,000 and $75,000.

Doc Gordon treated George before the Beatles were introduced to America on the "Ed Sullivan Show in 1964. The more expensive one was inscribed by George to him.

When you see Meet the Beatles albums being offered by dealers, they rarely sell for less than the high 5-figures.

Problem-free Please Please Me albums, the most common Beatles album, usually sell in the $20,000s. Special ones have sold for more.

The only other Beatles album signed in marker that I know of is a Please Please Me, signed on the back, that Frank Caiazzo sold many years ago for about $60,000:

So this Beatles VI, signed on the front, in marker, one of 2 band-signed Beatles VI known, and one of only 15-16 US release band-signed Beatles albums, seems fairly priced to me at $143,000:
