Odd Harrison QE 2 menu on eBay
While we're on the subject of George, how about this oddity currently on eBay with a start price of $1,500.
If it were genuine it would be great but I have pretty major doubts. It seems to be trying a bit too hard and there some very odd flowery bits. Parts of the inscription actually look more like Ringo's work (e.g. the "To"). Another big problem is that George was probably not on the ship on the menu date (2 September 1971). According to a blog I saw (that may be wrong of course) he boarded the ship on 22 September. If the dates are right, I hardly think George would have been asked to sign a three week old menu.
Thoughts?

The price is simply too high. Tracks have a signed album for less than his starting price.

Do you mean you think the whole thing is definitely authentic or only the signature?
The price has certainly come down to a more normal level. I don't want to stir up the old discussion but if the date of the menu coincided with a documented Harrison voyage I'd be tempted at £1,000.

I think we would have to agree to differ on the date and inscription points. To me it makes a big difference whether the inscription belongs to the signature and whether the provenance stacks up against known facts. It's just the way I tick. We certainly don't want to open up the discussion on the date again!

Exactly!!! Lots of people ....when they sell an autograph...know that the buyers want the "story behind the story". There are times when the facts get a little skewed...they may get the date wrong...etc. The only important thing is the autograph...and it is the real deal.

See I would beg to differ and I may be wrong on a whole (I know you do more buying and selling of Beatles than I, so you can track prices better)
However, I would prefer an authentic example (of course), but also getting a diffinitive "when and where" it was signed and even for whom would have me pay a little more.
This year I bought this piece which is in slightly rough condition, but knowing the whole story behind it is why I ended up buying it over another. I think history adds value, especially with so many more forgeries hitting the market everyday. - Attachments: No photo uploads here

And while this piece is up on Tracks £995.00 (which was the one I thought about buying. I couldn't find enough info on it and went with the George/Ringo piece for the same price.

That's fine. Out of all my autographs and handwritten items.....I know the "story behind the story" to 99.99% of everyone.....year...date...circumstance...etc. All except one. I know it's the real thing...and for that item...that's all that matters!! People do tend to "overthink" on certain items. Especially on this one!!

Obviously the autograph being authentic is the number one thing. I am personally just saying for myself, If I had to choose between two authentic pieces, I am going with the one that still has the history behind it I can trace. I personally would pay more money for the history.
Authenticity is first always of course.

Of course! I'm part of a traveling Beatles memorabilia exhibit along with 4 other Beatles collectors. When we are together at an opening I take the press and others on an early guided tour of the exhibit before we open to the public. I can tell you everything about every item on display...the stories add to the piece....and to the overall exhibit!!!

As Steve said, this will always have a cloud over it. That date...makes no sense. Speak to anyone working on Cunard in the 60's. That menu was actively NOT wanted around with that date.

I do not have the desire or ability to selectively discard what is relevant information for any reason. It is what it is. Do you say this would not be worth a bit more if the date were correct and could be demonstrated? The menu is from a previous crossing heading the other direction.
