Good morning everyone.  I am new here and would like your input if you have time.  In 1955 my grandmother met Elvis Presley at Magnolia Gardens in Houston, Texas.  She said he was literally sitting alone at a picnic table drinking a coke to cool off (Houston gets hot!) after his show, so as her and her future husband and my grandfather were leaving she pulled out a piece of ledger paper and had him sign it.  Long story short, this was passed to my dad and he has now given it to me.  I am wanting to frame it in my office.  I sent it to PSA for grading and encapsulation but PSA said they couldn't 100% guarantee its authenticity because the space between his first and last name because apparently his autographs all flow first and last name together.  This was very early in his career and my grandmother would have never had the internet or anything else for that matter nor the reason to forge something like this.  Can the experts out there just take a look and give me your 2 cents please.  I really appreciate it!

Elvis is my main focus

Congratulations on a nice vintage item!!

More legible than most from the same era

I have no hesitation in saying two thumbs up!!

Can't really guess what the PSA people can't see here

If you don't mind can I ask how much $ they charged you?

it looks good to me as well

$150 right off the top for analyzing etc

$50 for encapsulation (which was not done since they wouldn't certify it)

$60 for grading (gave me a voucher...well I never received any voucher so not sure how to use that).

I finally decided that for something that I want to have framed with a little story of its background to never be sold but given to kids and grandkids...I'm not paying that much again.  I do want to have it encapsulated however in order to make sure it doesn't have more exposure or potential damage.

So if my math is right your bill was  210 dollars all in??

Is that correct - any other charges?

I just looked up my scanned itemized encapsulation form:

$150 - authentication fee

$25 - premium item fee

$50 - grading (PSA/DNA said I was given a voucher for this)

$10 - COA letter upgrade (PSA/DNA said I was given a voucher for this)

$264 total when you add in the return shipping.

Ouch.

I figured given what I wanted to do with it, this would be certified and sealed and hanging on my wall.  Truly didn't see the PSA/DNA "professional opinion" coming back like it did...

I have never used any of them, and never buy or sell or suggest anything with a sticker especially. They should be good for prescreening but there are so many errors...

They actually provided you with a specific reason as to why they failed the signature? How did you accomplish that?

Yes, and it appeared to be a form letter with 5 or 6 reasons.  I don't have it with me here at the office but a couple I remember are:

1.  Ink pressure appears forced and no flow...So I started thinking "it looks to me to be in pencil rather than ink" (I really wish my grandmother were still living to ask some of these questions)

2.  The gap between Elvis & Presley is too large

I noted this as well - encouraging.

264 dollars for a wonky opinion

The facts are what they are here

You've got a dissenting vote from PSA while I suspect most Elvis collectors would happily buy this item from you!

So for the record let me again state that PSA has gotten this wrong IMO

The trouble is their opinion is much more highly valued than mine

Don't let them get you down - frame it and enjoy it!!
