I've always believed that an authentic autograph speaks for itself. With that said, it seems fewer and fewer "collectors" have the time or desire to know the "language". Obviously, authenticity is the foundation although it seems that is becoming more on who says it authentic than whether or not it's actually authentic. Especially on higher value signatures.

I've tried to evaluate the current group of TPA services. Since I am a DIY type of person I like to offer my autographs directly to the public. Currently, eBay is the best venue to do that.

With that said it seems to me that PSA would be the best choice to fit my requirements. I would like to hear some opinions about this and if any of the other TPA services are worth consideration.

I know there are others out there in my situation. Would like your insights on what you have experienced.

Thank-you.

if your looking to add resale value to your itiem then anything that steve grad authenticates is worth more.i know it suxs but its the truth

my 2 cents

I don't use them, they all sux but I understand the game and how its played

Thanks, Marc. That's definitely worth considering. I prefer to pick one service. Yes, perception is the new reality.

It's like picking an insurance policy. I understand the most of the market are just people looking for a specific item and don't care to learn about the hobby. They look for reassurance. I don't blame them with all the negative, although honest, aspects of the hobby.

Good question Joe

i think it depends on who or what you are Authenticating , for Beatles I only would use Perry Cox , Frank C, Tracks , Roger E ,

Not PSA or Beckett on Beatles

But PSA and Beckett could be good at other things

I agree w Sgt, for sports cards PSA has the market on most items, however, BAS I would choose as best all around. I would also seek specialist in certain items/fields.

Another plus for BAS. Thanks, Danny!

Don't forget all those Roger Waters...

I agree about  Beatles but if ur reselling it to joe shmoe they will pay more for a Steve one than a Frank or trans. That's just the way it is. They never heard of the other 2 but dam certified by the pawnstars guy now that's something. Lol

Thanks, Sarge! Cox and Frank do not authenticate items for the public. I've tried both. Tracks is across the pond and I'm not aware they provide services either.

Roger is great a music and has a solid reputation with experienced collectors although not an eBay approved service. And, I hate to say this, but I've have had items pulled from eBay with his cert.

There's always consigning to auction houses but that defeats what I like to do. I enjoy being a part. I enjoy matting and creating pieces. I enjoy what I do and never buy based solely on potential. It's got to be something I want to own first.

correct frank used to but stopped after the lawsuit I belive.

if your doing it for your own piece of mind find the best person, if your looking to resell use steve most bang for your bucks.
for beatles perry cox is really good also

When it comes to resale, it is not who is the best but rather, who the buying public perceives to be best.  For most items, I agree with you,Joe, PSA DNA has at least historically, been perceived as best.

You are correct, Daniel. Especially if the venue is eBay. It seems eBay is drawing nearer to PSA with their current direct link to quick opinions. It seems JSA is losing some of it's "star power" will more questionable opinions.

As much as I'm not fond of the idea, if a collector or small seller wants to participate competitively they need to have the added certification already included in the package.

I've seen a definitive difference in the way autographs are being sold in the marketplace. I know some don't like to view autographs as investments but with the high prices of today one would need deep pockets to ignore that they are investments.

None of which has anything to do with something being authentic. PSA - if I were a newer collector out for the Honeymooners I would be inserious trouble using that company - about 50% of the Jackie Gleason autographs shown on the PSA Facts online page are obvious secretarials by Sydell Spear or just forgeries. That most all Gleason signatures are secretarials has been known for some time, perhaps 6 years - a lot longer then my own work here where I identify each secretary by name and date.

I have never submitted anything and never will. I hate the very term - "submit". I do not buy, sell or recommendanything vandalized with a free advert/sticker/brand.

The "Gleason" below is from PSA Facts (it is in fact by Sydell Spear)...

Here is a JSA - mustn't leave them out...very fake indeed, and you need not know Bowie's signarture to see this.
