For what its worth, I've ran into PROBSTEIN123 on ebay many times where I thought the items he was selling, which are all authenticated, were very questionable.. i never dug deeper, but every time i see an auction from them, i just run.. there might be a connection.. since they authenticate a ton of stuff, there might be some kind of backdoor deal going on. I try to avoid dealers or anyone with mass quantities of autographs in general even if legit... but I also research everything i buy for days making sure I feel 100% certain about an item before buying... i do use psa, jsa and beckett as a reference but never just 1 source. I also always look for in person examples and also multiple time periods since some celebrities change their signing habits over the years..

These authentication services will lose a ton of money if they are constantly denying what autograph dealers send them because they will end up switching services

It's a slippery slope. There's a whole chain involved where the fraud may happen. In some cases the artist might not even be aware.

Say they start out with good intention and have the artist sign 5000 cards. Then they realise if they get 500 more sales they make a better chart position. But the artist is not available anymore. What to do? They want that chart position so someone decides a couple of fakes mixed in don't hurt anyone. Who's going to find out?

Then a next time with a other artist who starts complaining after 500 cards they decide to just fake the other 4500 as it was such a success last time.

I always wonder if the artist knows, or if they just tell them to sign some cards then have a secretary sign 5000 more without their knowledge.

I think both happens.

I've seen cases where artists were sharing video's of themselves claiming to be signing stacks of cards, but we all got stamped/ autopen. They must have been aware and not care.

In other cases where the artist does not share pictures or video signing I'm less sure, but I also think it could be plausible deniability. Especially when an autopen or stamp is used, because they'd need a template for that.

"...I feel like if they aren't real they wouldn't call him just to do a single picture..."

I would think that's exactly what they would do.

I think they would do that as well because the item(s) would sell 20 times faster with a pic of the artist signing, but I meant I don't see why they wouldn't sign at least a few while they are there as well.

You submitted the Dua Lipa one right? The lock down sessions ones and the ED sheerans were legit I believe.

Curious about this too- which was submitted to Beckett. I sort of had concerns about my Cold Heart (unusually small first name only) but Lockdown looked ok.

Unless you saw the artist sign himself, nothing is certain. When you buy from a 3rd party it's about your trust in the chain involved.

I personally do not trust the record labels, but I hold Elton in higher regard than to see him posing with an item, knowing he did not sign them all himself.

I feel like I remember a member on here who is very familiar with Elton's signature say that these were good. Anyone know who that was?

Richard Booth? He knows Elton's signature very well as I recall.
