Can we stop the 'random' thread? What is random to one person is a 'must have' to another... we all like different genres and this thread could mean people miss out... just a thought .....

and it's a good thought. Case in point, last year, someone posted the signed Melissa Manchester cd on this thread. The woman is a legend and should have had her own posts. I only sporadically check this thread so I was lucky I didn't miss it. I would rather Taylor Swift and Ed Sheran be put here LOL

I get that the idea was to have a separate thread for "minor" names. Problem is that there are some significantly varying perspectives on what's "major" and what's "minor." And individual musical tastes will play a role in it, which is why it's a bit difficult to arbitrate which is which. I will agree that some pretty significant releases have been mentioned here, while I've seen others get their own thread that really - in my opinion - certainly shouldn't have. Even with some of my own posts I've struggled to categorize them on occasion.
I didn't really myself have a problem with this thread, but I will agree it is getting a bit ugly and becoming something of a departure from the intent current format of the "music direct" section of the site. It might be worth considering nixing it if others agree.

I just follow any new "musician-direct" topics made, as well as follow this one specific thread. That way I don't ever really miss anything. I assume there are some people who don't want as many emails alerts as this thread generates so I personally have no issues with this thread existing.

yeah, I'm OK with whatever everybody decides and I have said before that I struggle quite a bit trying to decide whether to go random or main thread with many of these. I agree that the random thread will never be perfect as we will all differ on what we consider minor or important but if we get rid of it and a Bernie Taupin or Kate Bush gets bumped to the second page and some miss it because there are a bunch of smaller names in the main thread then I can see people getting upset about that too. I remember complaints about cluttering the thread before the random thread was started so I don't know what's best, but as I said, whichever way is decided is fine with me.
