every time i have used psa quick opinion on ebay it usually comes back "not very likely." Is everything on ebay  not authenticated fraudulent? Also,  can psa dna possibly be correct all the time ? I doubt it.  some listings they have given a negative quick opinion are from power sellers most uacc registered and some who have been in business for 10 + years.  I have contacted these sellers , most of whom say psa dna are ripping off novices in the hobby like myself and are making an  effort to have people buy directly from their auctions, and many times a celebrities autograph can vary a bit , especially if they sign something in haste as opposed to a signing event.  Im not sure which online businesses to trust , and even to trust psa dna's opinions . Are there any truly 5 star dealers on line or on ebay ? i am not  sure what to think about the process as a whole . Someone posted that they forged a signature and sent it to psa dna and it got their approval, and he did it with the sole purpose of proving them to be in effective at best in their field. Should i only buy if it already has a certificate or not, and who do i buy from ?  What is the best way to get an autograph and from whom if you cant get it directly from the signer personally, and is jsa or psa dna a good business to employ ?

What shouldyou ask / look for on ebay? Any really great sellers on there or have their own sites? There were a few on ebay I almost bid on after literally looking at 20 or 30 signatures supposed to be genuine to compare, the I got cold feet and paid for the quick opinion and it came back not very likely....I have now paid for 13 quick opinions and wont anymore ....but not a single one came back very likely, which seems to imply to me as a novice doing homework that most of what's on ebay in psa's "opinion' is probably garbage. Out of the 13 opinions only 2 ame back unable to render opinion, and I wasonly looking at auctions done by self proclaimed veterans in the business , al of whom had at least 5 years in business most of whom had more, and the starting price, or buy it now price seemed reasonable for what they were asking.....aka not cheap at all! Mos in he 125 to 300 350 dollar range.
Thank you for that, it is an amazing story and ihink I get what it is you are getting at, its kinda shaky having to use them to stay in business as I am sure there are plenty of good legitimate people selling good stuff w out them and being hurt by an incorrect opinion or vice versa. I am trying to get all the bonds, eastwoodand harrison ford for my kids as they love those old movies and a few more things from u2 for hem so they both have their own little collection I can give em. I want to leave them something "real" tha they can pass down to their kids hopefully one day, and in the mean time I have got a lot of boston spors mem as I am fromthere for myself already. . I am gathering other signatures from time o time, especially from stars who have their own web sites.....like dave prowse and such and. Am going o a convention in dallas where there are a few people who interest me from tv shows when I was a kid. Bu the stuff I am paying good money for. Are what I listed as both my kids seem to enjoy them, prob cause I watch those movies w them, and I am hoping it will leave a great memory of us. Together in the future for em. I don't expect youto give me all of theanswers, and nor would I everexpect that, I am grateful for your story hough, it is interesting to meand very. Personal, I apprediated it very muh and wish you all the best. Hopefully illl ge good enough to decipherfakeson my own andget a few things authenticaed for the kiddos jus tohelp em out a bit, bbut psa or not .....real isreal. , and an opinionis simply that, just an opinion, andi realize that. Thank you for your response, im sure ill save it and readit often
I will most definitely ttake a look and THANK YOU, I was lucky enough to get a U2 rolling stone mag signed and hopefully authenticated soon, ed murphy, a former director of the mullins center went on to work at the staples center and helped me out on it, I've also obtained a pic I think is genuine signed only by bono and the edge which I truly believe to be genuine, I am most familiar w their. Signatures and I paid a good price for them, and tne bond. Movies are easy enough I suppose to buy psa dna ones, but im trying to learn. More about em first. But ford and eastwood perplex me ........they are a lil tough for me to decipher on line, eventually im just gonna. Drop bucks on em, but I've just started on the bonds and have gottten 2 lazenbys.......figured start w the first and go from there, thanks for the help and the references, I've learned a lot, if u ever want drop me a line, steve

if you want something for the kids on Harrison Ford than just go to coolwater productions or celebrity authentics which is on EBAY.  Autorpgraph Pros (a mbr here) as well as other mbrs here also sell on ebay as well.  Go to R&R for eastwoods.

If you have an eye for items you can take the plunge.  I've picked up a few good Hestons amongst all the crap.   Problem is that it takes quite an effort to become a "would be" and there are alot of things to be concerned with.

Mike, very interesting story.  I can't disagree with your logic, from a business stand point. most of the buying public is uneducated, and it does give them a feeling of security.

I am strictly speaking from an educated collectors's standpoint.  when I sold on ebay years ago (and I sold a lot of autographs), I used the quick opinion service for the reasons you stated. It raised the value.

but as a pure collector now, I prefer to use my own judgement. the exception would be if I want to buy a signature that I have no education with. (for example, Bryce Harper).  If I were to buy one right now, I would probably use PSA or JSA because their opinion in this instance would be more valuable to me than my own.

ebay has definitely gotten worlds better in the last couple of years.  for example, if you go to look at Mantle, DiMaggio, Jeter, Maris, Clemente etc, you will find very very few forgeries.

I used to buy a lot of Piazza items, because I could tell the real ones from the bad. a few years ago, I got a lot of bargains, because there were a lot of bad forgeries, and if it wasnt certed, people shied away.  Now if you look at Piazza items, they are at least 95% real.

The exception is Tom Brady.  the proportion is reversed.

I've had a bad experience with JSA. I sent in a signed Nolan Ryan rangers jersey I had signed in person with photo proof and they deemed it not authentic! So who are these so called experts and what makes them experts if they cannot tell real from fake! James Spence should be brought up on criminal charges! !

thanks for your opinion, but there are many many many more serious offenders that should be "brought up on charges" before James Spence. Why would you send in a Jersey "you" got signed??

Don't drink the potion... Buggs Bunny, what an actor.

Do you have a photo of this jersey and scan of the photo? Is the jersey being shown signed by Ryan in the photo? That's probably the only version of a photo that could count as evident "proof" of Ryan signing the jersey. Even then, the TPA (in this case, JSA) needs to use their exemplar library as the guide for whether to pass or fail items. If you really feel you have a gripe, email Spence directly and send the same photo of the jersey and the photo of Ryan signing the specific item. If you have a legitimate concern, I'm sure they'll listen to you. After all, PSA will reconsider fails when presented with evidence of why their employees were incorrect to fail the item.

Photos can be manipulated WAY too easy to use them as proof these days. I can photoshop an iphone into Jim Morrison's hand lol

JSA is by far the worst experience I have ever had - 1st they told me a signed photo of Jason Witten had passed then a few weeks later I got a letter from JSA saying it was bad - What is even more worse is I watched him sign it in his football camp in Elizabethton, TN where he is also from and took a picture of him signing this exact photo. 2nd I took them a cast signed "Andy Griffith coloring book" which passed but they messed up the LOA - They said it had 19 signatures on the front which was true but it also had 10 signatures on the back. I showed both JSA reps this at the time of service but they did not listen or couldn't comprehend one!!  Leave this so called autograph authentication company alone. They charged over $600 for this and I am no better off now than before!!!!
