I have a ww2 defense bond signed by babe ruth. How would you go about displaying this? Need opinions if i should have it professionally framed with a picture of babe or just have it encapsulated and not display it?

If you have a great place to display it, don't hesitate to find a perfect photo to go with it and frame it.  If you're unsure at the present time as to how you want to display it, keep it carefully preserved in storage.  When you do get it framed, try to avoid Hobby Lobby, Michael's, or any of the craft store chains that offer heavily discounted framing.  Whenever I have anything of sentimental or monetary value, I use a local framing shop that has been around for 100 years, has a top-notch reputation and still owned/operated by the same family.  They're much more expensive than some of the cheaper options, but a much safer bet.  Obviously, request acid free materials and a UV filtering glass.

There are a few threads on this forum where you can find good info on framing do's and dont's.

From my experience, Mr. Rick Badwey is an EXCELLENT professional framer and uses only museum-grade material.  He uses cotton rag mat-boards (not the cheap acid-free materials that actually harm the photo) and non-damaging hinging tape, mylar photo corners in order to preserve the piece as if it were in a museum (and he is very affordable in his prices).  Here's the discussion we had on AML: http://live.autographmagazine.com/forum/topics/matting-and-framing-...  where you can learn more about the framing/display process.  His link can be found on the side of the screen called "Museum Quality Archival Frames."  Here's the link:  http://museumframing.com/museum-frames.php.

Hope this helps you,

Mike
