On December 2, Julien's Auctions is selling The Collection of Tompkins and Bush. The collection contains 465 lots of Michael Jackson memorabilia, 287 of them autographed.

Michael Bush and the late Dennis Tompkins were Michael Jackson's costume designers for 25 years, during Jackson's most successful period. They were the consignors of the signed Thriller jacket that Julien's sold for $1,800,000 in June 2011.

Almost all of the autographs in the Tompkins and Bush sale are a variation I'm not familiar with. I've only been looking at Jackson's autograph for a few years, though, and we have members here who have collected him for decades, so I'd appreciate your input and exemplars.

If you know Michael Jackson's autograph well, please look at a few images below from the auction and let me know what you think. Even better, browse the auction and upload any similar examples you have: http://www.julienslive.com/view-auctions/catalog/id/77/

Julien's is the world's premier auction house for Michael Jackson memorabilia, so they would know his autograph better than most of us. I'm just surprised I haven't seen this style before.

Thanks for your help.

Post images again...everyone. What you are hitting on here is too important not to show everyone. Just don't repost images the same as ones taken down last week. Run them by me if you're not sure.

Now I am looking at the December 2011 auction "Icons & Idols" and see several familiar signatures that are questionable. Experts can you chime in?

Lot 1457 Signed Wiz Jacket

Lot 1528 Signed White Rehearsal Fedora

Lot 1540 Signed Michael Jackson Bad Flag

Lot 1574 Signed Black Fedora

Lot 1610 Signed Boxer Shorts

Lot 1673 Signed Michael Jackson T-shirt

Lot 1683 Signed Michael Jackson Police Hat (maybe?)

Lot 1699 Signed Michael Jackson Red Shirt

I don't think any of these look like the Bush ones tbh.  (I'm not an authenticator tho lol)   BUT, just think, we'll all be authenticators of Bush's signature by the time this all ends. :)

I agree, none are Bush. & I think a couple ARE real.....

I disagree. None of them look real. The only one that could possibly scrape through is lot 1540, and only because it's on fabric.

On the Harrod's, white fedora and T-shirt I see Bush characteristics, though it looks like he was actually trying to make them look like Michael's autograph (unlike the most recent auction). And lot 1699 copies an autograph given to Tompkins, so that makes me think it's a Bush.

The other ones to my untrained eye could be by different people.

I'm not an expert, but I'm concerned about all eight. The T shirt and the police hat look like different signers than the others to me and at least five of the other six look like the ones you and Wendy pointed out last night. But none look right to me.

Other than possibly Lots 1673 and 1683, they all look like Bush style to me.  And they all look wrong.

Bush's sigs have a tall h in Michael and a tall k in Jackson in the latest auction.  I don't see that in those.  I also see the L loop down in Love.  Again, maybe he was better back then and got more sloppy for this current auction but they don't look like his latest sigs to me.   Lot 903 that you have below this thread, looks exactly like Bush to me.

Now that I've seen all the pieces with autographs similar to the one on the $1.8 million Thriller jacket—and after analyzing the inscription—I don't feel that the autographs on that jacket are genuine anymore. But again, we really need expert opinions before calling them forgeries.

But I don't think that they are signed by two people. I think that whoever signed the ones we suspect Bush signed also signed the ones like the Thriller jacket that actually resemble Michael Jackson's autograph. The most obvious similarity is the J of Jackson. There are two main versions, both which appear on both types of signatures.

There are also the long extenders on many of the Ms and Ns; the word "Love"; that so many of both types have the looped Ns, and more. But for some reason there appears to be two distinct styles from the same source...lat least from what I see.

The top photo was posted on Michael Bush's FB page in Sept of 2009.   The shirt is now in this auction signed.  http://www.julienslive.com/view-auctions/catalog/id/77/lot/33724/    I do believe that the signature goes below where the jacket opens, and should have been on the shirt in 9/09 as well.  I have no idea if there are doubles of this shirt that MJ himself wore.  The middle photo is from a fan at one of the previews.  The auction states the following

A white spandex shirt featuring ribbed neck, zip closure at back of neck, and a rainbow motif. The shirt is signed in red marker "Love Michael Jackson." Jackson wore this shirt as he portrayed Captain EO in the 3-D film of the same name, directed by Francis Ford Coppola and shown at Disney theme parks in the 1980s and 1990s.

A view of the pic from his fb page without the junk on the bottom that fb puts in (for tagging and stuff).  You can see it says Sept 9, 2009 D23 EXPO  (Disney I am presuming)
