Found a Led Zeppelin Band Autograph in a dusty box of LPs. Real?

Found this in a stack of vinyl today.

Owner said "oh yeah, I had that signed when they played here, I waited at the hotel", 1973.

They did play Denver Coliseum 1973, and under "Bonham" is "73"

I see forgeries and newer stuff, but nothing this old to compare to, was signed in a rush at the hotel.

Not expecting anything, just wondering. maybe just stoner dudes messing around did it themselves.

she was asking $2 each, I paid $100 to be nice, but bought a whole stack of albums, so if its a dud, Im still covered.

Blue sharpies in 1973? They look like they were all signed by the same person anyway.

I think your right, the R from Robert, and the B from Bonham almost look like the same letter, TY.

Hi Mateo,

Unfortunately i am confident that this item is not authentic. The first issue that i have with it is the writing instrument. Its dated 73, and i am not sure that they had this type of marker back then. I cant remember when sharpies came out, but the item looks like it was signed very recently, at least much more recent than 73. I could be wrong on the aging though.

But taking that aside I have never seen a Page like that, and am confident its not authentic. I have also never seen a Plant like that either, even on their early albums.

But, like you said, you dont have all that much in it, so no biggy. At least you have a good vinyl. But unfortunately i think the guy was lying to you.

Carl

The first sharpie was made in 1964 and felt tip pens have been around since 1960.

According to a couple of sources found via Google, blue-colored sharpies weren't introduced until 1979. And personally, I would still be skeptical of things supposedly signed with them for several years after that, until they started becoming the "go-to" instrument for autographs.

What about the Marks-A-Lot brand markers, the ones you took the lid off, put in a paper bag, did your thing and made that led zep album sound really cool. Those came in blue and have been around forever, had a wide tip. Not doubting your opinion on authenticity, but if was signed by a bulky tip, signatures would look off, correct?

Im starting to think the old highGuys were sniffing the marker and had the brainstorm to sign LedZep.

TY again to all for the help.

TY Carl, Im about to do the collecting world a favor and throw this cover out. Vinyl will go w next copy of Zep4 as a bonus. Im holding off for a day in case anyone stops me.

sad to say its def. not authentic

It's kind of silly looking actually

ugh

Just took the album back to the owner. "I didn't feel right only giving you $100, because if this is real, its worth $10-20,000, I didn't want to take advantage of you so I'll gladly let you have it back"

I was nice and let her give me "store credit", instead of a refund.

Thanks for all your help.

the forger seemed to slightly know what john paul jones' signature was supposed to try to look like at least.
