Hi everyone! I'm a new member to this site but I have been browsing here for a while. I only actively collected autographs through the mail back in 1992/93. I'm not sure whether the ones I received back are authentic/secretarial/autopen, and I came here hoping to get more information. Back then we sent requests to anyone and everyone we could think of. Now I'd only want to obtain autographs from some of my favorite musicians and historical figures, and anyone else that piques my interest.

I think autograph collecting is a great hobby, and I want to learn as much as I can and get back into it! I appreciate all the good information I've already received from the great people who post here. :)

Welcome aboard, Stacey! Glad you joined us. If you're not getting the info you need, drop me an email here and I'll see what I can do

Steve

Thank you Steve!

Hi Stacey ,you would be surprised how many musicians sell autographed stuff on their websites, just type in their names or check the thread here.

I have a few autographs made out to me personally, which I personally collected. They are Kate Bush, Joni Mitchell, Diana Dors and the original Pretenders lineup. All collected between 1981-1984.

I am a huge Marilyn Monroe fan and began looking at collecting her eight years ago and became very interested in her hand-writing when I bought a dubious signature on a dubious photo, which still holds mysteries to me. Its interesting because it originated from a deceased man's collection, all of which the rest of the signed photos were real, but not as big as Monroe (Dolly Parton, for example).

He had obviously framed this picture, therefore believe himself, that it was authentic in some way - but its some kind of secretarial or the weirdest Monroe signature ever. Its also on a photo from her unfinished film "Somethings Got to Give", which makes it almost impossible to be genuine. Yet, there are some characteristics similar to her hand-writing. I will never know.

Monroe is my only area of expertise at probably a moderate level, but I have a keen eye for details and love the detective work. However, my background knowledge of Monroe from being a fan for 45 years helps a lot, place time and photos, what she was doing when.

Wow Pauline, you scored early on your sigs. Joni has become absolutely horrible about signing autographs, Kate Bush is a wanted woman in many collections, and I must say I personally envy the fact you have the complete original Pretenders lineup. That is one hell of a start in 81! D

Hi Darren!

I did not know that about Joni - I thought it was just me she didn't like, as she was somewhat reluctant, but I had been introduced to her properly, so she kind of had to do the autograph. I would characterize her as "grumpy".

I read that Kate doesn't do autos anymore. I got mine waiting in the rain at the back of a shopping centre where she arrived on a quick promotional tour during "Lionheart" release.

And yes, I think at least two members of The Pretenders were no longer alive not long after I got those autographs. I had to trust a roadie with my auto book at the concert, but he returned it to me at the end of the night, made out to me and I have checked all the autos, they are true to the real signatures. I think he was probably the "top dog" roadie, stage manager. I had to trust him, but it all worked out.

I tried to get some other autos but failed - my lucky streak was over! Rod Stewart and Fleetwood Mac were impossible to get anywhere near.

I have 2 boys that play travel baseball and when the season is over, we take our family vacations and visit ballparks around the country.  We have been doing this for about 5 years and have 22 stadiums completed.  We generally plan for an evening game however we arrive at the park around 10am, go on a stadium tour and begin to wait for players to arrive (noon).  The boys both use MLB balls (for players they know) and autograph cards (for players they do not know).    They have had some great experiences at some ballparks (Washington, Denver, Miami) and have horrible luck at others (Seattle, San Francisco, Minnesota, Tampa Bay).  We are not interested in selling items and we do document as best as we can however there are times when we get an autograph that we cannot identify (my recent discussions).  I would be happy to share autograph locations and success or failures that we have encountered.

I started collecting a few years ago. Mostly Star Wars, but I do have a couple Walking Dead and Doctor Who items autographed. I also have a few autographs from comic artist and writers from various marvel comics (X-men, Avengers, Deadpool ), but I just happen to get those since they are at the conventions I go to, they aren't my primary focus.

I came here because I can't travel everywhere I want to get the autographs I would like, so I figured some second opinions would be great when buying items online.

Hi everyone! I have been a long time reader of this blog and often look to these forums as a way to make informed purchases when buying memorabilia for my collection.  I try to go out and get in person signatures as often as I can, however, my work schedule does not permit at times.  I always do a spring training trip for baseball every season, among other events that I like to attend and obtain autographs from.  I'm positive that many members here may have more extensive collections than myself, yet we all are here for the same purpose- to spread our collective knowledge of this hobby and get rid of some of the bad guys out there taking advantage of less informed collectors among other things.  Great to "meet" you all.

i've been collecting autographs since about 1985- I started writing to people to get their autographs, but have a sizeable collection of autographs attained in person. This is a hobby, I'm not a dealer. My collection includes autographs from actors/actresses, sportspersons, musicians. I'm a big Beatles fan, and have a number of Paul Mccartney signed items and a George Harrison signature
