Hi everybody,

I'm new here and found out about this great place after researching Michael Jackson's autograph. I'm a fan and official music release collector. I'm not really into collecting autographs, I would love to own one real Michael Jackson autograph just to have something that's 'personal' from the man himself.

I've read through out this forum and noticed all the different opinions about autographs being real or fake. My conclusion; It almost seems impossible to make sure a autograph is authentic unless you were there when the item was signed. Even PAAS released COA's of autographs that aren't real.

Through the years I've seen some eBay auctions where a COA was available form "Music Collector". The COA was signed by a person called S. Coleman. Now I can't find any information about this company/person. Is anyone familliar with these COA's? If so, can they be trusted?

I know most COA's can't be trusted and since I can't find any info on Music Collector, it might be fake. Still I wonder.

Not sure what to do to when it comes to actually bying an autograph. Should I just take a shot for a reasonable price and just believe it's real? Should I let it be authenticated or just trust my guts? Some autograps and COA's can be more truste than others. But they come with a price. Since MJJ signed lots of items and almost always was willing to sign stuff, I'm not sure I want to pay these steep prices. I've seen hundreds of autographs online. Some of them are fakes abviously and I will recognise those. Since MJJ singed pretty fast, there are lots of sloppy autographs, which makes it hard to judge wether those are fake or not.

Anyway, Like to hear some opinions and share exeperiences.

Thnx

Hi Lucas, welcome to the board. I was a newbie once. The very first MJ auto I bought on eBay was fake. That's how I found this board. Sorry, I've never heard of S. Coleman.

Ha ha,

Thnx for the reply. So a dead end means; No idea who it is, or; it's a scam?

Thnx,

Sounds like he's a nobody in the hobby, which doesn't necessarily mean it's fake.  Do you have any examples of autographs he sold/authenticated?  There are several people on this forum, including Sandra, who know Michael's autograph quite well.

Thanks Rich. :)

Hi Sandra,

Thank you for your warm welcome.

Once you bought a autograph, did you come to the conclusion it was false by asking other people's opinions, or did you have it authenticated?

Thnx!

Hi, thank you for your reply.

I guess it is very unusual. Thnx for your effort!

I realized it was fake when I read an Epic thread on this board about fake MJ autos in an auction by Juliens. Do a search on this board for that thread and read it. It's long, but you will come away with a better understanding on how to spot MJ fakes. :)

Hi Guys,

Thank you all for the replies. It's appreciated!

I read the huge thread about the Juliens auctions, well at least most of it :-) It's an interesting read. Still it's hard to decide which autopgraps are real and which are not. When I look at my own signature, there are small differences each time I sign one. Of course, it's still a certain way I sign it. MJJ made some sloppy autograps that's for sure, still some of the autographs on this board are being judged as fake because of very small details. You really have to be a expert, that's for sure.

I thought I had more than one picture of the autographs he authenticated. But this is all I have. I figured it could be real. De 'direction' seems to be ok, as well as the way MJJ signed in those days. It's very sloppy though and the pen was directed by the grooves in the vinyl at some point, which make it hard to judge. The way the year was written could be Mike I guess. Still, you can't be sure unless you were there when the man himself puts it on paper :-). Allthough I've been close, it just wasn't meant to be.
