Yeah PSA authenticating this just confirms my opinion they are almost worthless with music and entertainment items. Pure cash grab on this one.

I would agree with you on that. the blue sharpie ball I can buy into. the one that is the subject of this discussion looks like a 2 year old signed it. I dont see ANY positive characteristics or anything that would give any one an inkling that it could be authentic. Unless he signed it with the pen in his mouth. but I would need video evidence of that.

If anyone has ever tried to sign a baseball they will find it is very difficult to do when sitting down and trying but it would be even more difficult if in a walking situation. I don't authenticate balls that are signed by people that normally don't sign them as you get yourself into situations like this when in fact it might be real. It was shown to me and like always I said I don't do baseballs but Jimmy or someone there might have known more about the submitter and chose to pass it. You can't judge it like a signed album or photo that is flat.

To add to what William said, I have this wild fascination with knowing what the source of the autograph is. Who got it, when, where, etc. Even when the signature is spot on and can be authenticated on its own merit, I prefer to know the story behind what I'm buying. When PSA or JSA authenticate based purely on the source (something that even I can do), I'd still like to know what the deal is. But that's information PSA and JSA pretty much erases as far as I can tell. On the other hand, it's probably not a bad idea on their end, since some of those "trustworthy" sources are crap.

I don't expect a signed ball to took like a flat, especially if its someone that does not sign baseballs very often (like Paul). but I do expect there to be SOME semblance of letter formation, or something that ties it to the writer. the sharpie signed ball does this, and there is one on ebay currently that I believe also has positive characteristics.

I go back to my original statement, this baseball contains one of those signatures that has no business being authenticated.

Well, we now have a picture of one of the two in question being signed so unless you want to argue against a picture, we now know that one is INDEED authentic and the provenance used to deem it authentic is about as good as you can get.

Imagine that!
