I thought I'd just throw this out there for fun. Everyone knows of the Fab Four of Yankee Lore: Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, and Mickey Mantle. But of the latter two, whose autograph would you cherish more, The Yankee Clipper or the Mick?

Even though I'm a Royals fan, I love the Yankees history, and I think all four of those guys were fantastic. But talking DiMaggio or Mantle, for me personally, if I could only have one of their autographs, I would want Mantle's slightly more for some reason. Maybe it's because I got to meet Mickey when I was 10 years old. I'm not sure. I guess maybe I should value Joe D. more since I'm Italian, but that hasn't swayed me. I'd like both of their autographs, but choosing just one I'd probably go with Mantle.

Who gets your vote? Or maybe you can't decide.

I would vote for DiMaggio.

Nice. Yes, for me, even though I said Mantle, it's a close call. It's hard to beat the Yankee Clipper, plus, he had a really nice looking wife for a while!

Hoping not to be savaged by the Mantle group. Even being a semi Yankee fan only because the Phillies sucked so bad until about 1977. I never felt the same about Mantle as DiMaggio. I thought Mays was the best all around player between Mantle and Aaron in that era. I remember an interview once where Mays said if he knew homers were such a big deal he would have hit more. Though of the three he was the most miserable autograph guest.

Mantle because its more valuable.

That was not the question Mike.  Prepare yourselves for some controversy.  I believe that the only reason Mickey Mantle's autograph is worth so much money is because he is the preferred New York Yankees player of the baby boomers.  He was absolutely a great baseball player.  I am not disputing that obvious fact.  I am simply saying that there are a lot of autograph collectors out there purchasing the same Yankees player's autograph.  I predict that one generation from now, Joe DiMaggio's autograph will actually be worth more money.  After all, how much money did a World War II veteran actually have to spend on a baseball player's autograph?  They are fortunate enough to have survived World War II, as well as the Great Depression.

Please be gentle in your replies.

I enjoy this kind of talk anyway. I know both signed a lot but DiMaggio is a little more rare. I wonder who Chris Williams will "vote" for. I will add,of the two Mantle was a bit more pleasant as a signer.

Me too.

Well I can always sell the Mantle and buy a DiMaggio while still having money left over ;)

Its always comes down to the money for Mr.Kaminski...Personally I would take Mantle over Joe D. But covet them both about the same.Mantle was my first in person autograph when i was 11 years old and while i think i may have talked to his handler more then him I felt the Mick was just the icon of a whole generation. Also If it were not for Joe D in the WS Mantle may have not gotten injured and would have just been that much better..I am sure 10-15 years from now Joe D will be worth a bit more seems like his prices are soft atm.

Mantle by a tiny margin.

Joe DiMaggio.

Just autographs I'd cherish a DiMaggio signature more but I'd rather drink beer and raise hell with Mickey.
