Jim Morrison Signed "The Lords and the New Creatures" From Heritage Auctions

I’d like to post images of two Jim Morrison signatures and let you draw your own conclusion.

Here is an authentic Jim Morrison signature from a copy of the book “An American Prayer”:

Here is a Jim Morrison signature from a copy of the book “The Lords and the New Creatures” offered by Heritage Auctions. According to the auction results, it sold for $7,500 including buyer’s premium on October 8, 2014.

I don't think it's authentic Ballroom. The first "o" looks similar but is still off. Never seen an authentic Jim sig with the second "r" hooking so much to the left on the bottom and the transition on the second "o' into the "n" is not right. I personally would only buy a signed poetry book of his that has an inscription because almost "all" the real ones i've seen are done so.        Jack….

wow, it looks like one was copied from the other

Looks like a possibility. If someone has some Photoshop skills, they should do an overlay.

I don't like the look of the signature from the book in the recent auction! Doesn't feel right at all.

Looks almost traced

Was there any authentication from heritage or provenance with the book?

Photoshop skills guy here.  ;-)

For those of you wondering, here is the "...Lords" Morrison overlaid on top of the authentic. Pretty close, eh?

Thank you for that, hitmanten, and for suggesting that, Steve.

Nice job hitman, You pretty much confirmed that Ballroom picked out from his Jim exemplars "the" sig that the forger either copied from or traced. Some poor bastard paid $7,500.- for this. Although they have sold authentic Morrison's, this is the second forgery i've seen by Heritage in the past few months. Shame… I've re-posted from a past thread the other forgery they offered and the real one they tried to mimic….            Jack...

Tracing seems to be the thing to do these days - and it pays off I've seen.

Now we wait for the person who put it up for sale to show up here and say, its not EXACTLY the same, the r, n and the s is .0008 of a mm off, and we have solid provenance on it!

Good thread Ballroom

Thanks, Wascher. I wish I had found it while the auction was in preview mode. Unfortunately, I saw it for the first time yesterday.
