Star Wars Collectors Unite!

I have been collecting Star Wars autographs since 1998. Not all of my signatures are on Star Wars memorabilia. For example, when I met Warwick Davis at a comic convention in New York City, I had him sign a Willow photograph. I also have publicity photos of Sir Alec Guinness and Christopher Lee from the 1970s, and a Natalie Portman signed The Diary of Anne Frank theater poster from her performance on Broadway back in 1998. My current wish list includes Peter Cushing, Terence Stamp and John Williams. I am interested in knowing about the collections and wish lists of other members.

Agree. Disney probably socked them with staggering licensing fees.

This is unfortunate and likely NOT good for the consumer.

I wouldn't worry too much about it, opx has been on the way out since the Disney acquisition. They probably needed to get through celebration first before making it official. It will be interesting to see what happens, but I wager that it will end up being better for collectors in the long run. Disney can write appearence clauses directly into the actors contracts now, no need for a 3rd party company to track them all down and convince them to do appearences and signings.

It's a big shame because these guys always took care of their customers. I doubt that whoever takes over would have the same level of commitment to people's treasured items as OPX did. Also, they were talking about some amazing upcoming signings as early as a week or two ago. I wonder, do those plans go out the window, or can they still work signings with the talent somehow?

They said no more signings, so I would assume they go out the window. Honestly though, when was the last OPX signing? Hamill and fisher almost 2 years ago? They had Ford a few months before celebration but it wasn't a send in and he only signed 20 photos. It's not like they were pumping them out. As much as I like the OPX guys, I welcome a change that can provide collectors with better opportunities.

What I don't understand is that they haven't been updating the site with new items after the past few events they've done. They posted signings from a bunch of non-SW people on their facebook page but they never added them to the store. Perhaps this is the first phase of something they're going to do moving forward?

No idea. OPX was born out of C2 Ventures which was from Celebration 2. Their entire business was built on Star Wars. Maybe they will rebrand and continue, maybe they will go out, maybe Disney will just hire the guys to manage their stuff in house, we'll just have to wait and see.

I don't really see Disney getting into autograph collecting except for park signings. I think it is just their greed. I think its a loss for collectors.

Hey guys,

Well, your teaching is helping me, and I'm sure many others, to spot fake autographs. Just thought you might like to chuckle at these horrible attempts. It's a shame that someone will be buying these thinking they're the real thing. I wish there was a way to do something about it. Can we report it to eBay?
