Star Wars Collectors Unite!

I have been collecting Star Wars autographs since 1998. Not all of my signatures are on Star Wars memorabilia. For example, when I met Warwick Davis at a comic convention in New York City, I had him sign a Willow photograph. I also have publicity photos of Sir Alec Guinness and Christopher Lee from the 1970s, and a Natalie Portman signed The Diary of Anne Frank theater poster from her performance on Broadway back in 1998. My current wish list includes Peter Cushing, Terence Stamp and John Williams. I am interested in knowing about the collections and wish lists of other members.

Good Lord. $2000 for a 22 year old actress at the beginning of her career? Are people really paying that?

I can't imagine many scenarios where it would be wise to buy Ridley now. Star Wars is big no matter what, I get that. But right now, everything is just so inflated to the point of absurdity.

This is asking price, obviously they are not selling at that level or they wouldn't be sitting unsold. If she never signed again, $1500 might seem like a bargain... dealers are exploiting Natalie Portman fears to drive this price.

But the fact of the matter is, most people do eventually sign over time. And she doesn't have to do a private signing... Even a few here and there over time will make $1500 look pretty foolish.

She has a sour taste in her mouth now and maybe has turned down big bucks. Maybe she'll be singing a different tune in a few years when things cool down and she isn't the hottest thing in town anymore.

She has a sour taste in her mouth because of the dealers talked about so prominently in this thread. Are any actual fans getting her autograph, or is it basically only the guys stalking her at the airport and then running straight to the bank? Their greediness is what's making this worse.

Rich, if anything more fans got the autographs because we bought them from the guys who "stalked her at the airport".

Also, the line isn't as clear as "actual fans" vs. dealers. All of the guys I know who were there are fans of Star Wars and of Daisy and they all kept some for their own collections. Pete also stated earlier that at that time at the airport some of the guys were only out for personalized large pieces for themselves.

I never understood all of the bellyaching about in-person collectors who sell autographs. The good ones tend to be bigger fans of these people than most people sitting at home and buying them. They know all of their films, photo shoots, appearances, etc. because of the time they spend on the hobby. If it weren't for people like that my collection would flat out suck.

I agree with Steve.. at least Portman signed some posters and decent movie shots.. all of the Daisy's are rushed sigs on trailer shots. If I was going to drop that money on her, I would at least want a nice poster or shot of her with a lightsaber, or better multi piece... her with Hamill, Ford or anyone else other than BB8 and Boyega.

You can get Portman stuff cheaper than Ridley and she's a confirmed non-signer. Based on what I just sold my stuff for this past month, I wouldn't buy anything star wars related right now.. prices are very high.

There is also going to be the question of fatigue.. There are already 2 confirmed spin off films, Rogue One will be out this year, Episodes 8 and 9, plus there are rumors of a trilogy featuring Obi Wan with McGregor, Boba Fett and there is a rumor of a young Han Solo spin off trilogy. How many people are going to collect them all? And I doubt Disney will stop it there.

At least this Star Wars fan of 37 years was able to get her autograph from a reputable IP dealer back in July. I am too busy to hang around airports, but you make a valid point Rich. And yes, my math is correct. I did not see ANH in the theater for the first time until 1978. May the Force be with you.

I've always been torn on that. Yeah, the pro collectors provide some access to things that fans in other parts of the world have no access to. Put they also ARE the ones p****** off these celebrities and hurting fans' chances down the road. It seems like much of the time, they're somewhere between paparazzi and ticket scalpers. It's hard to feel great about it anymore.

Getting a dream role like Daisy is an opportunity that few experience. Getting mobbed by autograph seekers are a price that goes with notoriety. Once the newness wears off a bit hopefully she will be willing to sign more thus decreasing prices. I don't blame the professional autograph hounds. They provide a service to the collectors and it's all part of the times we live in.

I do! I don't mind.. I sold a ton of star wars stuff in December... stuff I've been sitting on for years.. people are impulsive, the market will drop again. Daisy will sign autographs for money at some point.. its a star wars tradition and it's only getting more popular :)
