eBay has settled on only TWO Approved Authentication Services

I just noticed eBay's approved autograph authentication services went from about ten, fifteen years ago to now ONLY two, JSA and PSA..

I think they got it right, but am curious how and Who influenced their decision?

Did they do an independent analysis over the past several years, or was it based on a relationship with either or both companies?

I'm betting a big wad of cash was involved.

Good move by Ebay. Won't help unless they work to weed out the mass forgery sellers at least.

I'm fine with that, but I'm guessing this is, at least in part, a business relationship. Epperson should be in the mix. Frank Caiazzo should too.

Glad that GA, AAU and other bogus firms are excluded though.

Mr. Epperson is with JSA but his cert should certainly be accepted.

Yeah, I am surprised it took so long for GA to drop off the list.

But, it would also be interesting to i find out HOW and WHY that happened...

Again, an independent analysis or "relationship" based ??

And online authentics

I cannot imagine it was done out of any concern whatever for the eBay members.  They would sell us to sausage factories if they thought it would make a profit and they could get away with it.  It may have something to do with complaints about other TPA's similar to that pawn show that only uses PSA-DNA now.

Funny you should mention that.  When I was on Pawn Stars, Rick kept saying "PSA was the best"..    Then when it cane to appraising my items and the PSA guy was Way Off, Rick made an offer based on an guesstimate value estimate from PSA...

When I questioned Rick he said again, "they are the best in the business".. I responded, "says who?".. he is not an appraiser , he just analyzes signatures.  His company is no the buying and selling business,  they don't do any appraising."  Rick didnt have an answer    So, I can only speculate what Rick Harrison bases his "best in the business" on..??   Maybe Chumley told him...:)

* Of course they cut that part out of the show..

I apologize if this was asked/said before but what item did you bring on the show?

EBay started to clean up the massive forgers about 10-12 years ago and were doing a pretty good job at it.  Or at least they were not looking the other way as blatantly as they once were, as long as they were making money.   They had a VP of their Safe Harbor dept, I think his name was Rick.  He was a great guy  and was sincerely interested in weeding out the frauds selling forgeries.  Then he left.  The last few years it seems eBay is slipping back into their "we're not responsible mode", as I am seeing more openly blatant forgery operations back on eBay..    And if you report them, nothing happens anymore...

It may not be as important who they approve but they should maintained a banned list and keep those off ebay altogether.

The reason I started this post is while searching online, I saw a Google ad promoting  Frank Garo Authentication services... ..

I thought he was once on the eBay list..?
