Hi all. I am new to this site and this is the first post I am making. I was in a used bookstore today outside of Boston and found a book by John F. Kennedy called profiles in courage amongst a large amount of dusty old vintage used books for two bucks. I opened it up, and on the flyleaf there was an inscription and it was signed. It did not immediately look like it said "John Kennedy" so I grabbed my phone and did some quick google research and was shocked to find a number of similar books with writing and a signature that looks the same as this one. Needless to say I bought the book for two bucks. Is this real? Thank you everyone for any input you can give.

I will give you 5 bucks for it!

Looks like it could be good. If it is fake, it's a pretty good fake. JFK's handwriting looked like that and it is kind of difficult to read.

I once bought a JFK signed letter at a flea market for $200 - turned out it was secretarially signed (signature was much more legible than his real ones)

Also if that is real, which I think it is, it is worth several thousand dollars. Get it checked out and authenticated by an expert.

Congrats on the great find!!
Daniel, trust me...you got the deal of the new year! Congratulations, it's as REAL as it gets! I collect JFK, and this is a no doubter.

That's a really nice inscription as well. Depending on the condition of the book, this is worth anywhere from $2200-$3200. If it's a First Edition, first printing, it's worth maybe double.
I spent a few hours googling the book and the publication information page at the front has the letters D – F. Apparently it is a first edition, early printing. April 1956. Not the first printing but an early one. Apparently the book came out in late 1955
That's awesome! If it were a 1st printing 1st edition I have seen signed ones go for at least $10,000. Seeing as this is an early printing but not a 1st printing it would probably bring between $2500-$5000 at auction. If you are thinking of selling I suggest RRAuction.
Then I would say clearly over the $3000 mark, and probably higher. I think that on these Profiles book, a first edition, first printing will actually say First Edition, but as you say, yours is first and early. I know book collectors love first editions, I just don't know what the difference in value a first edition, early printing would be.

Needless to say you scored big time! People dream of finding diamonds in the rough like you just did.
Thank you James! I am a huge Richard Nixon fan and have been collecting everything I can find about Richard Nixon my whole life. I have tons of autographs of Richard Nixon. I have often thought about getting a Kennedy signature just for party balance in my collection but could never even dream of spending the kind of money one of his signatures costs. Maybe the good Lord gave me a Christmas present
Steve just found his new story!!
Awesome!
You just wonder how many years that thing has been lying around undiscovered.
Congratulations.
I guess we can say that the employees at the bookstore screwed up! And just think of how many bookstore customers may have opened up that book and completely glossed over the sig and inscription and then put it back on the shelve.
Do you think I should pay the few hundred bucks to get it authenticated by PSA, especially considering I'm not selling it? If you are confident it's real and you are a collector and I'm not going to sell it maybe I should just be happy with that. Or then again, maybe if my kids sell it when I'm gone it will help them
If you're thinking of your kids, then go ahead. It will cost about $150 for JFK plus shipping. But don't worry, it will pass.
I called PSA/DNA today and they are having two autograph authenticators at a trade show in the Boston area in April. He suggested I bring it then. It's going to cost 150.00. It would have cost 300.00 if I had shipped it to them with the insurance rate. I figure that's a good investment considering I paid two bucks for this book. But you seem pretty confident James! Just for the record that's Goodnuf for me!
