Authenticity is Everything
A 1969 Elvis ....your thoughts welcome....
Hey guys....I'd like your thoughts on this Elvis...
I have a hand written letter from the lady who had this signed detailing how she received this from Elvis...that's her name on the envelope from the Flamingo Hotel in Las Vegas...
The letter states that she and two other ladies who were on vacation were told by their waitress that Elvis was dining in the Flamingo next door...They approached him and got an autograph or two...The thing that intrigues me about this is the following. The letter that accompanies this states that Elvis signed this on Tuesday February 25, 1969. A little bit of research tells us that Elvis flew from L.A. to Vegas on February 24th.
And that is interesting for two reasons...Elvis was accessible to fans before his full fledged return to Vegas in the summer of '69...plus there is little to no chance that the seller who was "just a fan" would have known if or how to confirm Elvis was in Las Vegas on February 25th, 1969. Fact is he WAS in Vegas on that date...I mention that F.Y.I.
I would appreciate your analysis...thanks in advance...

As you know, Don, Elvis's writing wasn't elegant, and the autograph you posted is smooth and polished. That alone, besides other characteristics, concern me. But let's see what others have to say.

believe it or not it does have some positives, but overall, very much different from the typical Elvis signature.

It has some of the characteristics of the green ink 1971 ALS, which is very different than what I'm used to seeing as Elvis. If it didn't have those, I'd say no way, no how. I still don't think it's good--way too polished and the E of Elvis and P make me bristle--but I think you should send it Roger's way.

It's not totally typical, but I think it might be authentic. And I think the last name especially looks typical in this example. From the ALS Steve posted, Elvis didn't always connect the s and P in his signature. Same in the letter to President Nixon he wrote on AA stationary in 1970.

the last name looks spot on, especially the height and angle of the "l" vs the "l" in Presley. Most forgers would not get this correct.

Boys this is a Paul Lichter fake.
Its typical of his Elvis forgeries that plagued is 1997 Butterfields auction. Every now and again these pop up with similar stories.
Elvis did sign his name in a broken pattern on occasion, but normally that was in the early signing days of his career. When he signed with RCA forward you really only see this pattern when he wants to put importance on his name (ie: Nixon letters, Contracts and some notes to close friends/ business acquaintances etc).
Anyone can forge a single letter, its the overall signature, placed in context that help evaluate Elvis's signatures. They aren't always easy.
Sadly this is the same forgery style as found from the mid 1990's to today.

Wait What ???? Wow !! Where did that come from ??
I acquired this directly from the original owner in 2003 and did so at an in-person meeting. The lady was local. You can see her name on the envelope in the top right corner...printed out by the Flamingo Hotel..."Bell Carol Miss....". So it was with Carol Bell Alton (she had married since her 1969 Vegas trip -- hence the now old fashioned designation "Miss" on the envelope) that I met with face-to-face to make the purchase. She never once mentioned Paul Lichter. And I suspect she never mentioned Paul Lichter for good reason...she wouldn't have a clue who he was...
Sadly Carol Bell Alton, who wrote me a nice detailed letter dating and outlining the circumstances of receiving this autograph from Elvis passed away in March of 2015.
